The Basics
A family owned and operated business for over 35 years, Narcotic Addiction and Treatment Agency (NATA) is a Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) facility based in the Sun Valley neighborhood of Los Angeles. Though its primary function is to provide methadone, clients also have access to regular counseling sessions on an outpatient basis and the option to participate in a 21-day detox program.
Treatment and Staff
Licensed by the State of California Alcohol and Drug Programs, as well as the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, Narcotic Addiction Treatment Agency offers a program of daily dispensation of methadone. However, clients participating in the program must attend at least one session of individual therapy a month to continue their methadone treatment. Over time, clients have the ability to earn “take home medication” privileges, which allows them to bring extra doses home and bypass daily attendance at the facility.
While at least one counseling session a month is mandatory, most individuals attend at least two to three sessions a month. Narcotic Addiction Treatment Agency is a relatively small operation, clients can usually count on having direct access to their counselors whenever the need arises. While the facility does not offer dual diagnosis care, clients are frequently referred to nearby accommodating facilities and Narcotic Addiction Treatment Agency counselors work in concert with these other providers to offer a unified program of care. While a client’s length of program at Narcotic Addiction Treatment Agency varies greatly, clients with more pronounced issues typically spend two years in the program.
The facility has a medical director, physician’s assistant and nursing team on-site and clients receive monthly drug tests to ensure their continued placement in the program. Narcotic Addiction Treatment Agency ’s counselors are LADCs, who employ a variety of methods, including Motivational Interviewing (MI) and CBT and while clients are informed about 12-step recovery, it is not rigidly emphasized. Clients can expect to address topics such as identifying triggers and relapse prevention at these sessions, as well as receiving assistance in finding employment and secure housing options when needed.
Extras
For those whose goal is complete abstinence, Narcotic Addiction Treatment Agency also offers a methadone-assisted detox program, which is often the result of a court mandate. Clients in this program abide by a strict 21-day schedule of de-escalating methadone doses, with access to counseling during the program.

While Narcotic Addiction Treatment Agency can be generally characterized as a methadone program, potential clients should note that the facility offers ample resources that allow for a more expansive recovery. Given Narcotic Addiction Treatment Agency’s small size, clients can expect regular access to counselors and can develop their own program of care.
