sober living pittsburgh pennsylvaniaThe Basics

Located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Lafayette Square is a transitional living facility for men run by Pyramid Healthcare, a behavioral health organization with a number of outpatient and residential programs throughout the state. The facility accepts men who are over 18 years-old who have previously completed an inpatient treatment program and who do not have any severe co-occurring disorders. It also accepts referrals from local and government agencies and is fully-funded through Allegheny County. Only Allegheny County residents are eligible to attend.

Accommodations and Amenities

The facility consists of seven studio apartments that can each host three residents, for a total of 21 clients at a time. Apartments come with a combined bedroom and living area, bathroom and full kitchen. The 90-day program is geared towards transitional living rather than a full-time sober living, but residents are still encouraged to live independent lives as much as possible. They are expected to cook for themselves and do their own laundry (on-site).

Rules and Regulations

Residents must submit to regular and random urinalysis tests. Since the facility specializes in social reintegration for clients coming out of the criminal justice system, residents are often required to attend or continue to attend outpatient or Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) during their stay. Residents must also attend regular 12-step meetings as well as life skills, job training and GED preparation classes.

The main goals of the program are to teach residents how to live independently, to reunite them with their families and to help them maintain sobriety. Staff is on-site 24/7 to supervise and offer assistance when needed.

Extras

Additional services include referrals to sober recreational activities in the local community. Residents can also take advantage of the Pyramid Healthcare’s other services, particularly for aftercare arrangements.

In Summary

Overall, Lafayette Square offers a safe and supportive environment for men recovering from substance abuse. Unlike some sober living facilities, the shorter-term program focuses on the transitional process of settling into independent living while continuing to attend treatment, rather than requiring clients to get a job or go back to school. While it is a niche option for Allegheny County residents only, Lafayette Square still remains a strong option for transitional living for those who qualify.
