The Basics

Located in Augusta, Georgia, Serenity Behavioral Health Systems (SBHS) has been providing mental health and substance abuse treatment and wellness services since 1974. SBHS provides comprehensive services to Augusta and the surrounding Richmond County communities. For adults struggling with alcohol and substance abuse, SBHS offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), formally titled Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient (SAIOP).

Treatment and Staff

SBHS utilizes the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) placement criteria for its initial assessments of the clients and to determine what level of care is needed throughout treatment. The program at SBHS involves at least nine hours of treatment per week and the length of the program is no more than three months. Treatment sessions are held throughout the day so individuals can choose either morning or evening sessions.

Treatment itself is individualized to meet the specific needs of each client and typically combine a combination of group, individual and family therapy. Individual and family therapy are scheduled separately, while group sessions are held at varying times throughout the week. The types of therapy implemented include Motivational Interviewing (MI), Stages of Change, the Matrix Model, the 12 steps, CBT and solution-focused therapy. Depending on the needs of the client, plans usually combine several modalities throughout the course of treatment to ensure the client receives the best, most effective care possible.

Dual diagnosis clients are welcome here and able to get additional mental health support through the SBHS network at large. The staff boasts a well-rounded batch of credentialed employees included LCSWs, CADCs, LPCs and LMHCs.

Extras

A variety of outpatient treatment is available to meet the needs of children and adolescents and their families. Crisis Assessment and intervention services are also available. A team of professionals will assess to determine the level of care needed to stabilize the crisis.
