The Basics

Based in Connecticut, United Services, Inc. is one of the state’s most comprehensive behavioral health non-profits. The organization provides a full range of primary care services in addition to outpatient treatment for addiction and co-occurring disorders. Founded in 1964, United Services has expanded and now has four locations in Dayville, Wauregan, Willimantic and Columbia.

Treatment and Staff

After an initial assessment, clients work with staff members to develop an individualized treatment plan comprised of individual, group and family therapy. Therapists use evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). If necessary, trauma-informed care is also employed. Though not required, clients are encouraged to attend local 12-step meetings if they wish.

The addiction treatment staff at all the United Services locations consists of LCSWs and LCDCs.

Extras

Additional services include therapy for codependency and gambling addictions, as well as meetings for Adult Children of Alcoholics.  The expansive organization also offers comprehensive services for victims and perpetrators of domestic violence, senior citizens and autistic clients, as well as standalone mental health counseling.  A full list of services is available on the United Services Inc website.

In Summary

Overall, United Services Inc is a comprehensive behavioral health organization with a number of programs available to Connecticut residents. Those struggling with addiction or who have a dual diagnosis are welcome, as are court-ordered and self-referred clients alike. Because the facility is partially funded through the state’s Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), many of the programs are offered on a sliding fee scale. For those in the area looking for affordable treatment, United Services is definitely worth considering.
