Oneill-Valley-HopeThe Basics

Established in 1977, O’Neill Valley Hope offers detoxinpatient, Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and outpatient day treatment for those over 16 facing substance abuse issues. Located in rural north-central Nebraska, O’Neill Valley Hope is 40 miles from the South Dakota border and 110 miles north of the nearest large city, Grand Island. O’Neill Valley Hope is part of the larger Valley Hope treatment center network. This means that O’Neill is supported by a larger community of treatment centers, and therefore is able to offer reliable treatment options at 16 locations in eight states.

Accommodations and Food

The 76-bed facility is set in a rural, picturesque environment, ideal for avoiding distractions during the initial stages of recovery. Clients are housed in semi-private rooms, sharing with one other person of the same gender. The bedrooms are motel-like, with basic furnishings and private entrances. A lecture hall and chapel sit on the grounds alongside the cafeteria and bedrooms. Outdoor activities are allowed in between these buildings.

On-site kitchen staff prepares healthy, home-style meals seven days a week that are served cafeteria-style in the dining room.

Treatment and Staff

O’Neill Valley Hope offers a variety of individualized treatment plans in a highly structured environment. Clients receive a medical and psychiatric assessment upon arrival, and this is used to determine the best course of treatment. Medical detox is offered as needed, as is dual diagnosis support for those with co-occurring disorders. Treatment length is to be determined by individual needs.

Inpatient treatment consists of daily individual therapy, psychoeducation, on-site 12-step meetings, group therapy and spiritual counseling. Clients can receive over 40 hours a week of active therapy, which also includes marital counseling and family sessions. For younger clients, the youth group is held twice a week. Scheduling adjustments are made to accommodate the needs of clients still in school.

Outpatient and PHP are offered to those who do not require the intensity of the residential program. Clients attend sessions six to eight hours a day, up to seven days a week. This program can also be used by clients coming out of medical detox before totally reintegrating into society or as a step down for those that complete the residential program.

Clients are monitored 24/7 by at least two nursing staff, with doctors and psychologists always available on call. Other staff includes CSACs and chaplains, who are responsible for guiding clients through the 12 Steps.

Extras

A remote online family program is available for the loved ones of clients that are unable to travel to the treatment center to participate.

In Summary

The highly structured environment at O’Neill Valley Hope offers a variety of programs for those of all ages. Participation in 12-step programs as well as spiritual counseling ensures clients have a strong foundation in recovery when they leave. O’Neill also strongly encourages continuing the relationship with former clients, and hosts a monthly alumni Renewal Day, held on the first Friday of every month.
