The Basics
Founded in 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee, Phases is a transitional living facility for women in early recovery. Their belief is that acquiring employment allows clients an opportunity to experience a sense of independence, and allows for financial security.
Accommodations and Amenities
Phases has two homes, each accommodating about six women. One house is a French chateau, comprised of two grey stone square buildings with red metal trim. The structures are linked with a black steel outdoor patio, topped with a red roof. There is a picturesque yard, which includes stone benches, old-fashioned street lamps, a rock waterfall and pond. The second house is a white-shingled country-style home, with a picturesque yard full of grass, trees, a picnic table, paved pathways, and a shed.
Clients are responsible for their own groceries, and meals are prepared in fully equipped kitchens. Amenities include cable, Wi-Fi and laundry rooms. Staff lives on the premises, and provides around the clock supervision.
Rules and Regulations
Prior to admittance, clients must fill out an online application, which is followed by an interview. All clients must have undergone detox. At Phases the program is divided into two stages, with the first utilizing supervision, and enforcing a much earlier curfew. Women progress to the second phase, usually after 30 days, provided that they are in good standing.
During the first two weeks, clients must acquire employment. Women receiving disability benefits must participate in an outpatient program or perform community service. During the first 30 days, clients can’t leave the premises without being accompanied by a buddy, who is a senior resident.
Clients who have been referred to an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) are required to attend as a condition of residency. Performance of household chores is mandatory. At Phases, the women attend regular 12-step meetings. Weekly meeting attendance quotas are assigned on a case-by-case basis.
Clients must also attend recovery support house meetings, unless they are at work. Group topics include spirituality, recovery skills, mindfulness, family concerns and relationships. During the first 30 days, the curfew is 6 pm seven days a week. After that time, the curfew is bumped up to 9:30 pm, also seven days a week. Women cannot enter an intimate relationship while at Phases. Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. Those who relapse must leave the premises immediately.
Extras
Phases provides an annual Octoberfest which includes music, food and raffles. Candles, which are handmade by clients, are sold online. All proceeds go directly to offset house costs.
In Summary
Phases offers newly clean and sober women an opportunity to be part of a sisterhood. The buddy system also provides peer support, and helps newcomers navigate their way around the community. The house meetings and case management services are an added bonus. This is a great choice for women seeking a solid, supportive recovery community.
