The Basics
White Deer Run Blue Mountain provides residential substance abuse treatment in Berks County in eastern Pennsylvania. White Deer Run Blue Mountain is a part of the White Deer Run network of facilities throughout Pennsylvania, and has been in operation for over 10 years.
The White Deer Run facilities are also under the Acadia Healthcare network umbrella, an international group of behavioral health facilities providing chemical dependency and therapeutic support. With its headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, Acadia serves communities across the country and in the UK with inpatient, residential, outpatient and school-based treatment programs.
Accommodations and Food
Residents are housed in a lodge-like facility in a wooded, rural area. Men and women occupy different floors of the 20-bed facility, and residents share rooms with two or three other clients. The facility also has on-site gym equipment for exercise and residents often take supervised mountain walks.
Blue Mountain employs a cook who serves standard American fare such as steaks and potatoes and hoagie sandwiches. TV is permitted at designated times in the evenings and on weekends, and residents have access to a Wii gaming system and board games for recreation. They also can use the house phones to call home up to three times each week. Personal computers and cell phones are not permitted.
Treatment and Staff
The average stay in residential treatment is 24 days. Residents begin each day at 6:30 am with meditation, chore assignments and a community meeting. Days are then spent in both group and individual therapy. Family therapy may also be scheduled as-needed. In the evenings, clients complete treatment assignments and are transported to a community 12-step meeting. Each day concludes with another community meeting, and lights are out at 10:30 pm.
The treatment team includes Master’s-level therapists (including MSWs), nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants and addiction counselors. Therapy combines DBT, CBT and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET). Gender-specific groups are held twice each week, as well.
The treatment team is equipped to treat some co-occurring disorders, but clients in need of significant dual diagnosis support may be transported to White Deer Run’s Lehigh facility to meet with a psychiatrist.
Extras
Family visitation hours are on Sundays from 1 to 4 pm. For aftercare, the treatment team refers clients to outpatient facilities that meet their treatment and geographic needs. The White Deer Run treatment network regularly holds a variety of alumni get-togethers throughout Pennsylvania to create a supportive, sober community to bolster lasting recovery.
In Summary
White Deer Run Blue Mountain provides residential treatment in a scenic atmosphere in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Its treatment team addresses medical and mental health issues in therapy, and the daily structure—which includes community meetings and peer support meetings—helps to foster an atmosphere of cooperation and empathy.
