Atlanta Georgia The Basics

Founded in 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia by Bruce Friddle, Perimeter Recovery Residences offers safe and structured sober living for men. Their belief is that abstinence, along with healthy lifestyle changes, are the keys to maintaining recovery. At Perimeter Recovery Residences, a sense of community is important. Numbers are kept small, so that clients feel like they are part of a family.

Accommodations and Amenities

Perimeter Recovery Residences operates two single-family houses, each accommodating about six men. The houses both have large front and back yards, which include trees and shrubbery. Residents are paired in double-occupancy, furnished rooms, which include twin beds, dressers, nightstands and lamps.

They are responsible for their own groceries, and prepare their own meals in fully-equipped kitchens. Amenities include cable, Wi-Fi and laundry facilities. The houses are close to public transportation, as well as to a plethora of 12-step meetings. House managers live on the premises.

Rules and Regulations

Prior to admittance, new clients must have undergone detox. They have to be ages 18 and older and tell staff if they have any physical, emotional, mental or medical health issues that might prevent them from fully partaking in the program. This includes a schedule full of medical, mental health and legal appointments. An interview is conducted and staff looks for those who exhibit a willingness to work for solid, long-term recovery and demonstrate a sense of commitment. Upon arrival, each client is teamed up with a sober member of the recovery community, who acts as a “buddy.” The buddy acts as a guide for the new client, plus provides individual support.

Rules are simple. On weekdays, clients work, or if unemployed, actively look for a job. If they don’t work, they have to volunteer. Clients must attend daily 12-step meetings, which are offered on-site on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Most men attend meetings at night, after they come home from work or from volunteering. Household chores are mandated. Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. At Perimeter Recovery Residences, there is a zero tolerance policy. Residents who relapse must leave the premises immediately to guarantee the safety of the household. While the 30-day cost is $850, clients have an option of paying $450 on a biweekly basis.

Extras

Perimeter Recovery Residences is a member of the Georgia Association of Recovery Residences (GARR), which demands high standards from its affiliates.
