For over 15 years, Mental Health Centers of Western Illinois (MHCWI) has been providing outpatient substance abuse treatment to residents of Mt. Sterling, Carthage, Pittsfield and the surrounding areas. The Pittsfield location offers group and individual therapy at the standard outpatient level of care. Individual therapy for substance abuse is available at the Mt. Sterling location and a weekly relapse prevention group is available at the Carthage location for those who have completed treatment elsewhere. In addition to substance abuse services, MHCWI offers extensive outpatient mental health treatment and case management services for adults and adolescents.

Treatment and Staff

Prospective standard outpatient clients have two intake sessions with a substance abuse counselor and then meet for a third session in which they discuss their treatment plan. Clients usually attend individual and group therapy once each week. Their treatment plan may also include attendance at peer support meetings in the community, such as AA/NA or Celebrate Recovery. The duration of treatment is progress-based, but most clients attend for several months.

Therapy explores the disease model of addiction, relapse prevention and coping skills using CBT and other evidence-based modalities. The treatment team at MHCWI includes Master’s-level therapists and addiction counselors such as LPCs, LCSWs and CADCs. Clients needing dual diagnosis support for co-occurring disorders are referred to MHCWI’s mental health therapists and psychiatrists.

Extras

MHCWI also offers supportive housing for those with psychiatric disorders and communications classes for parents and children going through divorce.

Since its substance abuse clients can attend long-term counseling and receive comprehensive dual diagnosis support from its mental health team, Mental Health Centers of Western Illinois may be an especially strong choice for individuals who would benefit from on-going mental health support.
