Methodist Richardson Medical CenterThe Basics

Methodist Richardson Medical Center is a branch in the network of hospitals in the Methodist Health System, one of the oldest non-profit healthcare networks in Texas. Located in Richardson, a city in Dallas County just north of Dallas, Methodist Richardson offers both an Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and inpatient substance abuse treatment programs.

Accommodations and Food

The accommodations for residential treatment are in a hospital-like setting with 30 beds and a high staff-to-client ratio. There are two clients of the same gender assigned to each room, with a few private bathrooms as well as communal gender-specific bathrooms on the floor. There are recreational areas and communal living spaces designated for those enrolled the program. Meals are served three times a day and are standard American cafeteria-fare.

Treatment and Staff

In both the inpatient and IOP, Methodist Richardson combines several different therapies and treatments to ensure clients have a well-rounded foundation for recovery. A typical day includes group and individual therapy, educational sessions, activity groups and a 12-step meeting. Therapies implemented follow the CBT methodology and educational sessions focus on clients understanding the nature of chemical dependency and how to prevent relapse. Family involvement is also integrated into treatment in both individual and group sessions. Additionally, clients receive relaxation training, medication management and holistic therapies such as mindfulness and spirituality seminars. Treatment for co-occurring disorders is also available for those requiring additional mental health support.

The IOP is scheduled every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6 to 9 pm. The program typically consists of 30 sessions and implements the 12-step philosophy of treatment. Upon completion of the IOP, clients are encouraged to attend the aftercare program, which has scheduled groups every Saturday.

The staff at Methodist Richardson consists of clinicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, LCDCs and LISWs.

Extras

Chemical dependency treatment is just one program in the Methodist Richardson Medical Center behavioral health department. In addition to a range of medical, general health and emergency services, clients have access to general psychiatric care, a recovery program for professionals and recovery services tailored for older adults and seniors. Assisted living programs and home care are also available.

In Summary

Methodist Richardson Medical Center has two highly structured substance abuse treatment programs, an inpatient program and an IOP for those who wish to maintain their work and family obligations. All treatment is based in the 12-step philosophy with individualized care. While the clinical environment may not meet the needs of those seeking an intimate or home-like recovery experience, residents have access to a state-wide network of hospitals and their affiliated services making this a comprehensive treatment option.
