The Basics
Founded in 1951, Tri-County Mental Health Services is a community-oriented behavioral health organization committed to providing quality treatment for substance abuse and mental health disorders to the people of Maine. With locations in Lewiston, Bridgton, North Windham, Oxford, Rumford and Farmington, its outpatient addiction treatment programs treat adults, adolescents and children, both self-referred and court-ordered.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial intake and psychiatric assessment, clients are given an individualized treatment plan consisting of a schedule that includes individual, group and family therapy. Though individual programs vary, one of the most common is the integrated primary care track, a grant-funded program that combines medical, psychological and trauma-informed care.
Therapists use evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, multi-systemic therapy and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Groups address a variety of addiction-related topics as well as life skills. Additional psychiatric support and medication management are available for clients with co-occurring disorders. Though 12-step participation is not a requirement, clients are encouraged to attend meetings off-site if they wish.
Staff includes psychiatrists, mental health nurses, case managers and PhD and Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
In addition to the above, Tri-County Mental Health offers a short-term residential stabilization program that can accommodate up to six clients at a time, who are 18 years or older, and generally lasts four to six days. Though not a detox program, this track is a transitionary option for clients coming out of inpatient care or who need additional supervision before beginning outpatient treatment.
Additional services include a Transition to Independence program for clients ages 16 to 21 with severe mental illness; an adult health management and recovery program that teachs basic life skills to clients with severe mental illness; crisis assessments; telepsychiatry and DEEP evaluations for clients with DUIs/DWIs.
In Summary
In all, Tri-County Mental Health Services offers comprehensive treatment for addiction to its community. With a number of locations, its outpatient programs take special care in making sure their techniques are both evidence-based and sensitive to where their clients are at in the recovery process. Helping adults, adolescents and children for a wide range of mental and behavioral needs, Tri-County Health Services is valuable local resource for the entire family.
