Kelowna British ColumbiaThe Basics

The Crossing Point, which is part of Valiant Recovery Centers in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, offers residential substance abuse treatment for adult men and women. The treatment modalities are holistic and focus on the individual needs of each client. Programs include group and individual therapy, with an emphasis on fitness and self care.

Accommodations and Food

The Crossing Point residential facility serves both men and women, though on separate wings of the building. The residence is a large house that can accommodate up to five men and five women at a time. On each side there are three private bedrooms and two that are shared with one other client. The private bedrooms are fully furnished and comfortable, providing a queen sized bed, dresser, closet space and a desk and the shared rooms are similar with the exception of full sized beds. Both sides offer common areas, like living rooms with couches, board games, books, a TV and a lounge. A large kitchen and dining room and rooms for meetings are also included.

Nutrition and health is a focus in the program and the on-site chef prepares gourmet meals three times a day. The food is hearty and filling and is made from fresh local ingredients. There are also snacks set out during the days. The meals are from a set menu, but there are alternate choices if the client has any food allergies or is a vegetarian.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment programs offer evidence based therapy modalities that include social, biological, holistic and spiritual elements. There are daily group sessions and several individual therapy sessions weekly. The group therapy sessions are at times co-ed due to the limited number of clients in the program at once. This allows for personal attention from the therapist and connection with the other clients.

Therapy methods include CBT and EMDR, as well as relapse prevention techniques, anger management, coping skills and self care. There are psychoeducational lectures and random drug testing. There are additional groups and therapy options for clients who are struggling with co-occurrings disorders and staff permits previous medications into treatment and is able to administer and monitor them.

The staff at The Crossing Point brings a variety of behavioral health specialties to the clientele that includes eating disorders, trauma and domestic violence. Accreditations include medical doctors, Master’s-level LCSWs, LPCs and interventionists.

Extras

During treatment the staff works with each individual to design an aftercare program that may include attending the outpatient program associated with Valiant, or outpatient treatment in their community.

In Summary

The Crossing Point aims to give the client a comfortable experience and a respite from everyday life while healing. The programs meet the client where they are and tailor treatment to suit their needs, acknowledging that there isn’t a one size fits all way to treat the disease of addiction.
