InnerVisions Recovery CentreThe Basics

Located in the Vancouver, British Columbia area, InnerVisions Recovery Society operates Hannah House rehab for women, in addition to two residential facilities for men. Miller House and Prairie House are available to adult males who are 19 and older, and offer group and individual therapy services based on the 12-step philosophy. InnerVisions was founded by Kim and Billy Weselowski, a married couple who are both in long-term recovery. In 1991, they opened the facility to help others to heal.

Accommodations and Food

Both the InnerVisions men’s residences, which are located in the Maple Ridge neighborhood, are large homes in quiet residential neighborhoods. Miller House has 25 beds, and Prairie House has 21. Both of these facilities offer shared bedrooms and several bathrooms throughout. There are also industrial size, state of the art kitchens, dining rooms, weight rooms and work out areas, and living rooms with TVs. Staff offices and meetings rooms are also included and shared common areas where clients can relax and read or meditate in between programming.

There is a staff cook on-site at both houses that provides the clients with three, healthy meals per day and snacks around the clock. The menus are pre-set, but there are alternative options for those who have allergies or are vegetarians. Fruit and bread or crackers are available for snacks, and salad is served with both lunch and dinner.

Treatment and Staff

The program at InnerVisions is broken down into three phases. The initial phase is the most intensive with the idea that the clients need time to acclimate to the daily schedule and get acquainted with the 12-step philosophy. During this first phase clients can’t receive phone calls or visitors. The next stage requires the clients to dive into step work, doing regular reading and writing assignments, several group therapy sessions per week, and one individual session weekly. In addition to attending regular AA or NA meetings, therapy methods include CBT, DBT, EMDR and Motivational Interviewing (MI). There are regular relaxation practices, coping skills, anger management classes and relapse prevention techniques. The final stage the clients work with therapists to design an aftercare plan and connect with support groups in their community.

There is a medical professional on staff who specializes in addiction. If necessary, clients meet with him once a week for medication management. For clients who enter into treatment that are participating in medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with Suboxone or Methadone are able to continue with the supervision of the medical staff. The staff at InnerVisions are all in recovery and able to offer personal advice and guidance through the stages of obtaining sobriety. Accreditations include LADCs, LCSWs and psychologists.

Extras

The clients work out regularly in the on-site gyms and enjoy group recreational activities like hikes or trips around town. There are daily morning walks that are led by counselors and weekly outings to bowl or see movies.

In Summary

Through their gender-specific recovery homes, InnerVisions has provided addicts safety and care for over 20 years in a structured and supportive environment. During their 60-day stay clients are given the tools to maintain sobriety and the freedom to allow for the healing process to begin.
