The Basics
Long Island Consultation Center (LICC) was founded in 1953 and is now the oldest, private non-profit mental health treatment center in the United States with more than 60 years of service. Located in Queens, New York, LICC offers an outpatient substance abuse treatment program that implements both holistic approaches and 12-step recovery principles.
Treatment and Staff
The outpatient substance abuse program offered by LICC is licensed by the state of New York to provide assessment, treatment and DUI services. The program adheres to the disease model of addiction and focuses on relapse prevention and self-awareness. Clients must first go through a clinical assessment to determine an individualized treatment plan which dictates what the client should focus on in therapy, the types of therapy that will be most beneficial and the frequency of sessions per week.
Some of the groups offered include a women’s group, a men’s group, a co-occurring disorders group, a relapse prevention group, an early recovery group, a long-term sobriety groups, DUI/DWI groups and an adolescent group. Clients may be recommended to partake in any or all of the groups depending on their specific needs. Twelve-step groups are also offered on-site at various times throughout the week. Individual sessions may be scheduled if desired. Family sessions are also included in the program, as LICC believes family is just as significant as the client in recovery. The length of the program depends on the needs of the client and is subject to change depending on his or her progress throughout treatment.
The staff at LICC consists of LISWs, LADCs, a psychologist and LMHCs.
Extras
In addition to the comprehensive outpatient and residential substance abuse treatment programs, LICC also offers a variety of other services including community prevention and education programs, treatment for eating disorders and counseling for a wide variety of mental health issues for both adults and adolescents.
