Waltham MassachusettsThe Basics

Middlesex Human Service Agency has provided the communities in and around Boston with behavioral health, social and homelessness services for the past 39 years. With a network of locations in Waltham, Massachusetts, clients have the option to choose the most convenient facility that best suits their treatment and recovery needs.

MHSA offers an inpatient program for clients who have been convicted of a second DUI offense that incorporates evidence-based treatment methods and the 12-step framework.

Food and Accommodations

Up to 45 clients are accommodated with single beds—typically in double occupancy rooms. Common areas include a fully-equipped kitchen, a cafeteria, several recreation rooms and staff offices. There are three main dormitory-style bathrooms, a laundry room and several outdoor recreation areas.

Treatment and Staff

The residential program at MHSA is designed specifically for individuals convicted of a second drunk driving offense who have either been mandated by the court into treatment or who are self-admitted.

During treatment, clients progress through seven basic recovery levels. The first is an initial medical screening and evaluation which helps staff collect info for the second services, which are three individual assessments. Using this information, counselors develop an individualized treatment plan. The third element of treatment includes a total of 10 group therapy sessions. Basic educational sessions and HIV/STI educational sessions are the fourth and fifth elements.

An introduction to the 12-steps and AA/NA is another core element of every treatment program and an aftercare program is developed to support clients following completion of treatment.

The staff at MHSA consists of LPCs, LISWs, LCDCs, clinicians and CADCs.

Extras

In addition to substance abuse treatment, MHSA also offers treatment for a variety of other behavioral health issues as well as general community services. Homeless shelters, stabilization services, educational programs, emergency family shelter services and nutritional assistance services are all available.

In Summary

The DUI program at the Middlesex Human Service Agency is specifically tailored for second offenders convicted of drunk driving who have been court-ordered into rehab and treatment for substance abuse. The program provides structured treatment and a safe environment where clients can attend traditional therapy groups, 12-step meetings and educational courses to better understand addiction and to develop tools to avoid self-damaging behaviors.
