The Basics
Founded in 1983, Tri County Behavioral Healthcare is a Texas-based outpatient treatment facility for chemical dependency and mental health. Funded by the state, private insurance and grants, its five locations serve residents of Liberty, Walker and Montgomery counties and accept both self-referred and court-ordered clients.
Treatment and Staff
The adult chemical dependency program is open to clients 18 years and older and meets several times a week for approximately 13 weeks. Treatment uses evidence-based practices such as CBT and follows the Matrix Model. Though primarily consisting of group therapy, clients suffering from co-occurring disorders can incorporate individual sessions into their program. Group topics vary, but include educational sessions on addiction and 12-step concepts. All clients must submit to regular and random drug tests.
The youth outpatient track is for clients 13 to 17 years old. While similar to the adult program, it focuses more on Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and CBT. Groups tackle topics specific to younger clients including social pressure and behavior, life skills and drug prevention. The program lasts for 10 weeks.
Staff consists of psychiatrists, physician’s assistants, RNs, LPCs and LCSWs.
Extras
Family therapy and case management services can be added to any of the programs.
Additional services include an inpatient mental health program for adults, as well as other services for clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Finally, the facility offers a support program for veterans and alternative sentencing programs for clients coming out of the criminal justice system.
In Summary
Overall, Tri County Behavioral Healthcare is an expansive organization offering substance abuse treatment to both self-referred and court-ordered clients. Each program is individualized, with separate tracks for adults and adolescents, and offers evidenced-based therapies along with educational groups, 12-step principles and additional support for clients with a dual diagnosis. All this, along with five convenient locations, makes Tri County Behavioral Healthcare a valuable resource for those in the suburban Houston area.
