The Basics
While Jamie Greene is not technically an interventionist or addictionologist, he does have extensive experience as a therapist and addiction counselor and refers to himself as an “unconventional life coach.” His approach to treating his client’s substance abuse issues is informed by his successful decades-long career as an MFT and, most likely, many of the situations he encountered in his “double-life” as a successful touring and session drummer in the 1980s. It was a trade he plied playing nighttime gigs with the British duo Go West while building his therapy practice by day.
Greene’s current coaching practice consists of three digital programs: Alchemy in Love, Off The Couch and Beyond The Couch.
The Background
Greene was born and raised in England and came to the United States for college, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in sports medicine from Pepperdine University. He then earned his CADC credential at UCLA and a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) from The Phillips Graduate University.
Greene’s thriving marriage and family therapy practice led to appearances on Fox’s “Marriage 911” and a stint as Brad Womack’s therapist and life coach on Season 15 of ABC’s “The Bachelor.” Greene ultimately felt his clients would benefit from more action-based tools, and he left his career as a therapist to create coaching modules, accessible to clients throughout the world at a range of price points.
The Approach
Each of Greene’s programs helps clients tap into their authenticity and improve their relationship skills.
Alchemy in Love is a three-session audio program that helps clients create satisfying romantic relationships. Greene writes, “a relationship is the field of play in which we have the opportunity to discover, learn and teach others who we are and what we need, and yet, seldom do we know how to do it effectively.” Alchemy in Love teaches clients how to identify self-defeating behavior, nurture self-care and make better choices in identifying potential partners.
Off The Couch is a more intensive 10-session audio program that helps clients identify the issues that have made them construct a “false self,” leading to unsatisfying life choices and relationships. Throughout the ten sessions, Greene leads clients through exercises to help them access their “true self” and create a more fulfilling life. Off The Couch also includes membership in an online forum through which clients can ask Greene and other Off The Couch members questions.
Beyond The Couch is a monthly membership program that includes bi-weekly, Monday night, live group coaching calls with Greene. In these sessions, Greene helps members integrate the tools of the Off The Coach program. Membership in Beyond The Couch includes access to an exclusive Facebook group so members can receive on-going support and input from Greene. Beyond The Couch also has a “concierge” who is dedicated to helping members with any technical support they require.
In Summary
Jamie Greene’s successful 20-plus years as an MFT led him to develop a set of coaching programs that include tools to build relationship skills, manage anxiety and make more fulfilling life choices. While the coaching programs do not focus on treating substance abuse, they might make an effective treatment supplement for those looking to create the thinking and behavior patterns that make them less vulnerable to addiction.
