Astoria Pointe Sober Living

The Basics

Set along side the Columbia River in the bucolic Northwest city of Astoria, Oregon, Astoria Pointe provides sober living for men and women in recovery for alcoholism and addiction. As part of the national Sunspire Health organization, Astoria Pointe Sober Living is an extension of the treatment center and outpatient substance abuse program of the same name.

Accommodations and Amenities

Astoria Pointe is a nine unit, co-ed apartment building accommodating two or three per gender-specific unit. The apartments are fully furnished and each has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and dining area.

Furnishings are new and comfortable and include double beds, cable TV, individual washers and dryers in each unit and Wi-Fi. Clients are responsible for their own food and meal preparation and are taken to social services to apply for food stamps. Cooking utensils and cleaning supplies are provided. Smoking is permitted outside and only in designated areas.

Rules and Regulations

Eligible clients must be drug- and alcohol-free for at least 30 days, preferably coming directly from residential treatment. Residents must be enrolled in Astoria Pointe’s 10-week Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and attend group and individual therapy 12 hours per week. Group sessions use CBT as well as peer-driven discussion and cover topics such as self-esteem, relapse prevention, addiction-related health issues, coping skills and family dynamics. Special gender-specific groups  discuss certain topics in privacy.

Clients are expected to attend daily AA/NA meetings until they find  job. Once employed, they must attend four meetings per week with house slips signed by the meeting secretary. Transportation is provided by Astoria Pointe staff to and from meetings as well as to business appointments, interviews and doctor’s visits. Treatment techs are on site 24 hours per day and counseling staff during the week. Curfew is at 10:30 pm Sunday through Thursday and at 11:30 pm Friday and Saturday. The treatment team consists of MFTs, CADCs and treatment technicians.
