El Paso County Detoxification FacilityThe Basics

El Paso County Detoxification Facility was founded in 2009 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, a large town at the eastern base of the Rocky Mountains. The facility offers both detox and outpatient substance abuse treatment services to adult men and women.

Treatment and Staff

When individuals struggling with chemical dependency and addiction come to El Paso, they first undergo a formal medical assessment with an on-staff nurse and doctor to determine if any medical treatment is needed. Most clients come here to take advantage of the detox component so after their evaluation, they usually enter the program, are assigned a bed and begin detox procedures. Although the program is free, clients are required to provide Medicaid information if they have it.

The length and intensity of the program is based on the needs of the clients and their desire to be involved in structured treatment after detox is complete. The average stay is five to 10 days. The facility is a large open building and has 32 male beds and 16 female beds, with each gender residing in different wings of the building. Clients are encouraged to stay for as long as possible, but are allowed to leave whenever they wish.

El Paso’s treatment program consists of group and individual sessions. Groups are offered during the day and consist of education, sharing and relapse prevention. Clients also have access to counselors 24 hours a day and are encouraged to meet with them regularly for one-on-one sessions. Although counseling at El Paso is not 12-step based, the organization does host daily AA/NA meetings that clients are encouraged to attend. El Paso does not offer specialized dual diagnosis support, but clients with potential co-occurring disorders are referred to outside mental health providers.

El Paso is a non-smoking environment and clients are not allowed to smoke at all while in the program. The facility also provides landline phones for clients to use, but long distance calls are prohibited. Although clients are allowed to leave at any time, they are not allowed to leave in the middle of the night without a ride set up for them. The staff at El Paso consists certified addiction counselors (CAC), nurses and an on-site doctor.

Extras

Clients are provided three meals a day that are prepared at the local County Criminal Justice Center.

Although El Paso does not have an official aftercare program, counselors do provide referral services to outside residential and outpatient programs if clients wish. Clients are also strongly encouraged to attend outside AA and NA meetings when they leave El Paso.

In Summary

El Paso County Detoxification Facility provides extremely affordable and flexible detox and outpatient service to male and female adults in the Colorado Springs area. The on-site 12-step meetings allow clients much needed exposure to the outside support systems they are encouraged to join after leaving treatment. El Paso’s on-site doctor and nursing staff provide a high level of medical support to clients who are undergoing severe withdrawal symptoms. Also, the free cost allows clients of all economic backgrounds to receive help with safely getting off drugs or alcohol so they can begin their journey to recovery with a fresh start.
