The Basics
Norwalk Hospital Behavioral and Mental Health offers outpatient, inpatient and a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for treatment of a variety of different behavioral health issues. Located in Norwalk, Connecticut a suburban New England town, the substance abuse treatment program at BMNH offers both a basic outpatient track and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
Treatment and Staff
The basic outpatient track is intended for individuals who wish to maintain a regular work or school schedule. The three main treatment components of treatment include individual therapy, family therapy and group therapy. One-on-one and family sessions are scheduled Monday through Friday with evening hours available as well. Group sessions are also scheduled Monday through Friday but times are subject to change.
Cleints enrolled in the PHP and the IOP meet a minimum of four evenings per week for as long as is necessary for the client. The program is based on a 12-step and Motivational Interviewing (MI) approach to treatment.
All groups are led by a credentialed professional and typically has a staff-to-client ratio of one-to-eight, with 10 clients maximum. Staff utilize DBT and group topics include addiction recovery, anger issues, anxiety disorders, co-occurring disorders, early recovery issues, life skills, mood disorders, relapse prevention, a Spanish-speaking group, a women’s inter-generational group and women’s general recovery group. Before participating in any of the groups, clients must meet with a counselor to develop an individualized treatment plan which dictates the frequency of therapy sessions each week and the particular groups that would be most beneficial to the client’s recovery.
The staff at BMNH consists of psychiatrists, LPCs, LCSWs, CASACs and MAs.

In addition to the comprehensive substance abuse treatment programs, BMNH also offers treatment for a variety of other behavioral health problems and other issues as well.
