Gloucester City New jerseyThe Basics

My Father’s House, Inc. provides a standard outpatient treatment track and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults and adolescents in Gloucester City, New Jersey, a small suburban city directly across the Delaware River from Philadelphia. My Father’s House primarily works with court-mandated and indigent clients who may not otherwise have access to individualized treatment. The facility aims to make an empathetic connection with each client and make them feel cared for in mind, body and spirit.

My Father’s House was founded in 1998 by Miriam Mundy Broderick, a Licensed CADC who has been in recovery herself since 1978. Operations began as a half-way house for women, but in 2000 focus shifted to outpatient treatment in order to serve more of the local population in need.

Treatment and Staff

After an assessment, clients are placed on the standard outpatient track or the IOP. Standard outpatient clients meet for group therapy once or twice a week and have individual therapy at least once a month. Clients in the IOP meet for group therapy three to five days a week and have at least two individual therapy sessions each month. Both day and evening groups are available for adults; adolescent groups meet after school from 5 to 8 pm.

The duration of each track is progress-based. Most clients begin treatment in the IOP and then step down to the outpatient level after successfully passing drug tests and participating in therapy. An average stay in the IOP is two months.

Therapy groups have a maximum of 15 participants and many of the groups are gender-specific. Groups are led by addiction counselors, most with the CADC credential. CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and solutions-focused techniques are used in groups and individual therapy.

Currently, My Father’s House refers clients with co-occurring disorders to a nearby mental health clinic for dual diagnosis support. However, it’s in the process of adding several therapists to its treatment team to help treat a broader spectrum of mental health diagnoses.

My Father’s House endorses the effectiveness of the 12-step framework and requires clients to attend three AA/NA meetings each week.

Extras

Family counseling is available to all outpatient clients. My Father’s House is currently developing a formal aftercare program but in the meantime, counselors follow-up with clients periodically to make sure they’re able to implement their aftercare plans.

My Father’s House offers clients and the community access to its Food Pantry each Friday. It also provides shuttle service to treatment to and from the towns of Camden and Sicklerville.

In Summary

My Father’s House, Inc. has been providing outpatient treatment to court-mandated and indigent addicts since 2000. Its caring approach and deep roots in the Gloucester City community ensure that clients feel they have an advocate in their recovery who can set them up for success after their treatment plan ends.
