Correctional Psychology Associates (CPA) opened in 1998 in Denver Colorado, and is an outpatient substance abuse treatment facility that works through the Colorado Department of Corrections. CPA offers individual and group therapy services in a main office location, and within the correction facilities throughout the state. Treatment is individualized and employs evidence-based methods substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.

Treatment and Staff

All clients, most of whom are referred by the court system or currently living in a halfway house, have an in depth assessment performed to determine what level of care would be the most effective. There are several group therapy sessions offered throughout the day, some that are gender specific and others that are co-ed. The programs at CPA are designed for those dealing with substance abuse and also with a dual diagnosis, and some last for up to nine months.

The Enhanced Outpatient Programs (EOP) meet twice a week for 90 minutes. The group sessions are psychoeducational and process oriented. Other groups run for about an hour and cover relapse prevention and anger management. The therapy incorporates CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and the Stages of Change models. Some clients with participate in a variety of group sessions during treatment that may address their specific needs, and on occasion there will be reading or journaling assignments for the groups. Most of the treatment is group based, but there are individual therapy sessions available, as well as medication management and psychological counseling offered.

The staff of CPA has experience working in the substance abuse and mental health field, as well as with those who have been part of the criminal justice system. They are all Master’s-level CADCs and psychiatrists.

Extras

In addition to the group therapy schedule, CPA also offers family and couples counseling. The facility is usually open Mondays through Fridays, but on occasion it’s possible to get treatment on the weekends.

There are many therapeutic options offered at CPA for clients who have the experience of being a part of the justice system and are now looking to get clean. This facility is professional and provides their clients with outcome-based therapy in a dignified and supportive environment.
