The Basics
Founded in 1972, My Family, Inc.—better known as MFI Recovery Center—provides outpatient substance abuse treatment at several Inland Empire locations in California. With facilities in Banning, Murietta, San Jacinto and Riverside, both standard outpatient and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) are available. With the exception of the Banning location, all branches also offer programs for adolescents. The Riverside location has an opiate detox program, and MFI also operates several residential treatment facilities in the Inland Empire.
MFI’s mission is to assist men, women and families develop tools for a healthy life as productive members of society by providing a range of behavioral health and substance abuse treatment programs.
Treatment and Staff
After an assessment, clients are placed in the standard outpatient track or IOP. Most clients complete their treatment plan in eight weeks, but IOP clients who step down to the standard outpatient track may stay in the program for as long as three or four months.
IOP clients meet for group therapy three times a week and individual therapy once a week. Standard outpatient clients meet for group therapy once or twice a week and schedule individual therapy as-needed. Groups seldom exceed 15 participants.
The treatment team includes Master’s-level therapists such as MFTs and addiction counselors with CADC and CAS credentials. Counselors and therapists employ the Matrix Model and 12-step framework and require clients to attend outside AA/NA or other peer support meetings as part of their treatment plan.
While co-occurring disorders are addressed in therapy at MFI, the treatment team refers clients with mental health diagnoses to nearby mental health clinics for more specialized therapy and medication management. MFI is also a proponent of involving the entire family in a client’s recovery and provides a family program for those who wish to partake. Its adolescent treatment track in particular offers significant family intervention through group and individual therapy.
Additionally, clients addicted to opiates can receive Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with Suboxone at the Riverside location and participate in counseling at any one of the outpatient centers.
Extras
After completing their treatment plan, outpatient clients can attend a weekly aftercare group for six weeks. Alumni can also connect with each other in MFI’s closed Alumni Facebook group.
In Summary
MFI Recovery Centers have been providing outpatient and residential substance abuse treatment to California’s Inland Empire for over 40 years. With relatively low-cost treatment and a network of facilities, MFI is likely a promising option for those who wish to enter treatment while maintaining their responsibilities at work, school and at home.
