SOBER LIVING IN NASHVILLE TENNESSEEThe Basics

Connections Recovery Residences operates two sober living homes for men and women in Nashville, Tennessee. Residents participate in active daily schedules in a safe and structured environment. The facility has more than 10 years’ experience in providing well-rounded recovery practices designed to focus on healing mind, body and spirit.

Accommodations and Amenities

Each gender-specific home can accommodate seven clients; with bedrooms shared by one or two residents. All rooms are equipped with full-size beds, nightstands, lamps, closet space and modest decor. The homes have several common areas with couches and comfy chairs where clients can gather and watch TV. Spacious kitchens are for residents to cook and prepare their own meals and on-site laundry is available. In the men’s home, there is a backyard with a hammock and a basketball hoop; and the women’s offers a back porch with a barbecue.

The support staff is made up of LPCs, Master’s-level therapists and sober program coordinators.

Rules and Regulations

Those taking potentially addictive medications, who won’t or can’t change their prescriptions, may not be eligible to live at Connections Recovery Residences. Nor can those who have a history of self-harm, eating disorders or severe psychological disorders as the facilities are not equipped to handle these kinds of issues. Clients are required to make a minimum of a 90-day commitment, broken into several phases.

Each facility offers a number of classes and therapy sessions each week. Group therapy takes place for four to six hours a week in addition to four to six hours of life classes—covering cooking skills, healthy communication, managing emotions, budgeting and other related topics. Each resident is expected to work a 12-step program, get a sponsor and attend meetings every day.

The first month focuses on building a community within each home, pairing clients with staff therapists, acquiring a sponsor and developing an individualized treatment plan. The second month expands into by working on financial and time management, where residents are expected to get a job or continue treatment via a local Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). More privileges are granted in this phase and residents are allowed to run errands off-site. The third phase focuses on spiritual principles, relapse prevention and transitional strategies.

Extras

Holistic health options are also worked into treatment, such as mindfulness training, exercise, acu-detox and nutrition classes.

In Summary

Overall, Connections Recovery Residences provides structured and gender-specific sober living options for men and women in the Nashville area. Both programs strike a good balance between nuts and bolts 12-step involvement, community support, life skill development and holistic healing methods, while preparing residents to transition into an independent sober life.
