Founded in 1984, New Freedom Center, Inc. has been providing outpatient and residential substance abuse treatment to the residents of Bismarck, North Dakota for over 30 years. Bismarck, the capital city of North Dakota, is home to several colleges including the University of Mary. The treatment team at New Freedom facilitate recovery of the body, mind and spirit by combining holistic and evidence-based methods.

Treatment and Staff

There are three levels to outpatient treatment at New Freedom Center. The most intensive track is the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) which meets for several hours of group therapy each weekday from 10 am to 3 pm. Clients participate in individual therapy at least once a week. In the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) clients meet for group therapy three nights each week and have individual therapy at least once a week. In the standard outpatient program, clients meet for group therapy once or twice a week and have individual therapy as-needed.

While the duration of each track is progress-based, the average stay in the PHP is four to six weeks and most clients take two to four months to complete their treatment program in the IOP. As clients progress, they step down to the next less intensive treatment track. Clients in both the PHP and IOP levels are also required to attend at least one 12-step meetings each week.

Group sessions uses motivational interviewing (MI), CBT and DBT and don’t exceed 12 participants. Groups are led by LACs and while counselors can address co-occurring disorders, New Freedom sends clients to a nearby mental health clinic for treatment and medication for mental health diagnoses.

Extras

Aftercare is provided through a weekly relapse prevention group. New Freedom Center also has a family program which includes individual family therapy, participation in multi-family support groups and introduction to fellowship programs for the families of addicts.
