The Basics

Based out of Wilmington, North Carolina, Liberty Counseling and Recovery Services is an outpatient addiction and mental health treatment facility open to adults, adolescents, children and families. The organization also offers DUI classes for court-ordered clientele. Liberty Counseling and Recovery Services is located three blocks from New Hanover County Regional Hospital, though the two are unaffiliated.

Treatment and Staff

All programs are individualized and rely primarily on group therapy, though individual sessions can be scheduled as needed. Treatment uses evidence-based and solution-focused methods such as CBT, psycho-education and behavioral modification. Support for co-occurring disorders including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and PTSD is also available. Though 12-step principles are not an integral part of the program, clients are encouraged to attend off-site meetings.

Staff consists of LPCs and Master’s-level drug and alcohol counselors.

Extras

DWI assessments and classes are available as are clinical substance abuse assessments. For students, the facility also offers ADHD evaluations and consultations with teachers. Career counseling and anger management classes are offered as well and psychological counseling as standalone services.

In Summary

Liberty Counseling and Recovery Services offers a number of flexible outpatient services for addiction, mental health and behavioral issues. Though the staff is somewhat limited, all counselors are Master’s-level and provide evidence-based therapy. Clients with more severe mental or behavioral issues or those in need of more intensive residential care with a medical component may find Liberty Counseling and Recovery Services limited, but for those seeking flexibility and general services, this Wilmington facility remains a solid and affordable option for the community.
