The Basics
Baltimore’s Man Alive, Inc. and Lane Treatment Center, LLC is a comprehensive facility with a variety of outpatient treatment options for recovering addicts. Man Alive, Inc. was founded in 1967 to specifically treat heroin and opiate abuse. Originally offering methadone services, in 2005 Man Alive became the first licensed Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program in Maryland. When Man Alive joined with Lane Treatment Center LLC, it began treating dual diagnosis clients as well and now also offers a Maryland-licensed DUI/DWI education program. Big on compassion for the addict, Man Alive and Lane Treatment Center emphasize that solid recovery takes as long as it takes.
Treatment and Staff
Standard outpatient treatment begins with clients meeting one-on-one with a staff counselor to develop individual treatment goals. Those suffering from opiate dependence typically begin MAT right away via Naltrexone or Vivitrol coupled with on-going therapy, individual case management and peer support. Methadone detox is also available.
Clients who are referred by the courts or the DMV for the DUI/DWI Alcohol Education Program also begin with an assessment. Clients are then placed on a 12 or 26-week track, with groups meeting every Saturday from 11:15-1:15 pm. Discussions range from the physical and psychological impact of alcohol addiction, compulsive behavior, the impact of addiction on the family, myths around the disease model of addiction, relapse prevention and anger management.
The dual diagnosis program is offered via standard outpatient—a one- to three-hour per week program that includes group and individual therapy—or as an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which involves nine hours of group therapy a week.
Staff consists of CACs and Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Man Alive accepts state insurance (with the exception of Medicaid) as well as military insurance and Access to Recovery vouchers. Like other facilities that offer recovery services to low-income clients, man Alive accepts payment at a sliding scale.
Man Alive also offers urinalysis or breathalyzer testing.
In Summary
With a history dating back to the 1960s, Man Alive has continued to build and improve recovery programs offering the latest advancements in opiate addiction treatment. As a community partner of research-based programs at the University of Maryland and John’s Hopkins, Man Alive maintains a strong connection to the Baltimore community and to the ever-evolving world of addiction recovery. With a motto of “Acceptance and empowerment promotes recovery,” potential clients can expect an effective, evidence-based program as well as a compassionate and understanding staff.
