The Basics
Founded in 2009 in New Haven, Connecticut by Pastor Michael Caroleo, The 180 Center is a non-profit outreach ministry, which provides a group of faith-based sober living homes for men and women. Besides providing safe and structured housing, the 180 Center offers a Christian fellowship and disciple-training program for individuals struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Their belief is that a strong relationship with Christ can help a client find serenity and freedom, as well as resolve inner and outer conflicts.
Accommodations and Amenities
180 Center has five men’s houses and one women’s home, and the number of clients vary per house. Clients reside in furnished private or shared rooms. A typical double includes twin beds, a large dresser and storage space.
Clients are responsible for their own groceries, and meals are prepared in fully equipped kitchens. Amenities include cable TV, laundry facilities and Wi-Fi. Smoking is permitted in outside designated areas only. Clients caught smoking inside a residence are immediately dismissed from the premises.
Rules and Regulations
Preferably, clients have just completed residential treatment, but all potential residents must have undergone detox. Requirements include attending one weekly house meeting and performing household chores. While not mandated, residents are welcome to attend the Bible discipleship program, which provides spiritual training, Bible studies, substance addiction treatment and conflict resolution training. The 30-day discipleship program cost is $440.
The curfew is 10:30 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and 11 pm Fridays and Saturdays. Doors are locked immediately at curfew. Clients must give a 24-hour notice if they want to stay out past curfew or receive an overnight pass. At The 180 Center, a zero tolerance policy is enforced, and random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. Residents who violate the rules or relapse are immediately evicted from the premises.
Extras
A Christian 12-step meeting is held from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm Friday evenings at The 180 Center. Church services are held on a regular basis, and clients are encouraged to attend.
In Summary
Former clients rave about how The 180 Center saved their lives, and helped them build strong relationships with Christ. This affordable sober living community is perfect for clients seeking a faith-based approach to their recovery.
