The Basics
Founded in 1962, House of Hope offers cost-effective substance abuse and mental health services for adults. Located in Lincoln, Nebraska, this organization offers three sober living facilities for men. In addition, a short-term residential program for both men and women is also available. While living at a halfway house, men participate in the 12-step community and obtain employment or further education. By sticking to the rules and doing the work, residents can lay a solid foundation in early sobriety.
Accommodations and Amenities
The men are housed in one of three homes. While the accommodations are basic, residents are provided with everything they need. Each house has bedrooms shared between two people, featuring twin-sized beds and dressers. Bathrooms are shared by several men. The downstairs areas of the homes offer a living room with a TV, a nicely sized kitchen, an outdoor area for smoking and a dining room. Meals are prepared by clients, who often take turns cooking as a group. While there is no gym, the men are able to get outside for a run in the morning or evening.
Rules and Regulations
All residents are required to obtain employment, find a volunteer program or participate in school while living in the home. In addition, they must attend weekly individual and group counseling sessions held at a nearby facility. When it comes to 12-step involvement, the men must go to a minimum of five meetings per week, obtain a sponsor and be actively working the steps. Both on- and off-site meetings are available. Referrals to local meetings in the community can be made upon request.
Smoking is permitted in designated areas outside of the homes. Personal cellphones and laptops are also allowed. There is a strict zero tolerance policy for substances. Anyone caught using drugs is subject to being evicted from the program.
Extras
In addition to their sober living capabilities, House of Hope offers a short-term inpatient program for men and women, crisis intention services and bilingual staff members.
In Summary
House of Hope provides a no-frills, basic sober living experience for men. While there is a set of rules to follow, this program is not as strict as some others. Residents are required to follow the 12-step path of recovery, attending many meetings per week and working with a sponsor.
