The Basics

Based in West Palm Beach, Florida, KD Consulting is an intervention services facility providing national services for clients struggling with substance abuse and addiction. KD Consulting was founded by Kevin Dixon, a Certified Intervention Professional (CIP), Board Registered Interventionist Level II (BRI-II) and a Certified Master Addiction Counselor Level II (CMAC II). Dixon has worked for 15 years in the mental health field as a Life Coach, consultant, counselor and Executive Director of various intervention facilities.

Additionally, Dixon is certified to work with individuals who have co-occurring disorders and also provides intervention services for chemical dependency, eating disorders, general mental health and process addictions. He has appeared on television programs, radio shows and speaking circuits to bring awareness to addiction and substance abuse prevention.

In addition to intervention services, KD Consulting provides sober chaperon and escort services for individuals who require additional assistance.

The Background

KD Consulting was founded in 2006 after Dixon discovered his passion for providing services to individuals and families. His focus shifted to founding his own organization when he noticed the impact his services could have on families and clients. Dixon developed his own approach to facilitating intervention services that reaches further than just the intervention process itself.

The Approach

From start to finish, Dixon and his team see families and clients through their journey on the path to recovery from the beginning stages through continuing care. Dixon utilizes the Johnson Model of intervention when working with clients. He also blends his own experience with family dynamics studies and 12-step work to create the best course of action. Depending on the acuity of the illness, Dixon works closely with the family to develop an intervention plan and timeline.

Several meetings are scheduled with the family to assist in drafting letters to the individual, explaining how their behavior has adversely impacted their lives. Dixon also helps to select a treatment program and safe transportation services. If detox is needed, Dixon ensures a facility is chosen that can accommodate medical detoxes.

Once the family is prepared and the treatment facility is chosen, the intervention takes place. The process is careful to not place blame on the individual but rather surrounds them with love and intentional support. The only topic discussed is the disease itself, not past occurrences or hurts. If clients are willing to enroll immediately in treatment, they are transported with a trusted team of escorts.

Three treatment options are presented to the client during the intervention that include aftercare and sober living options following primary care. Dixon and his team focus on relapse prevention by surrounding the client with a continuum of care and sober companionship. Dixon stays in contact with the family throughout treatment and the treatment facility as a liaison.

Post-Intervention and Summary

Recovery coaching and sober companion services are also available to bridge the gap between intervention, treatment and aftercare. These services include a specific aftercare program that requires 12-step meeting attendance, counseling sessions and appointment planning.

KD Consulting understands that recovery and intervention can be a delicate process; relapse may happen and the client may not be willing to accept the help being offered. Dixon and the KD Consulting team work with the family and client to find the right path for treatment and recovery.

Due to Dixon’s work and belief in cultivating healthy family dynamics, he understands that the family’s recovery is as important as the individual. Alanon and family therapy are highly recommended and sessions may be scheduled as often as needed.
