The Basics
For more than 10 years, Lisa Abrams has run Signs of Recovery, a private practice providing counseling and intervention services. Based out of Naples, Florida, Abrams is a credentialed counselor and interventionist and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Certified Supervisor Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CSADC), Master’s-Level Certified Addiction Professional (MCAP) and an International-CADC. Beyond chemical dependency, Abrams provides support for a range of mental and behavioral health issues including self-harm, sexual addiction, video game addiction, eating disorders and other co-occurring disorders. In addition to her private practice, Abrams serves as a program supervisor for Hazelden Betty Ford and also works as a sober coach. She works with individuals, couples and families.
The Background
Prior to founding Signs of Recovery, Abrams graduated from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in 2013. She also worked as an addiction counselor at Palm Partners in Delray Beach, Florida as well as Lutheran Social Services of Illinois and Maryville Academy, also in Illinois.
The Approach
Abrams draws on her range of credentials using numerous evidence-based approaches to treatment including Motivational Interviewing (MI), CBT, family-systems therapy as well as the 12-steps. Abrams also works with clients who have not had success with AA/NA.
Other treatment modalities include psychodynamics, narrative therapy, gestalt and humanistic therapy. Abrams tailors her services to the individual, preparation for each intervention based on the specifics of their situation with varying methods. Abrams can also provide assistance with detox and works with clients who have dual diagnosis, mood disorders, impulse control disorders, grief, chronic pain and anger management issues.
In addition to couples and family counseling, Abrams is trained to work with adolescent clients between the ages of 11 and 19.
Post-Intervention and Summary
After the initial intervention, Abrams offers both aftercare and ongoing care with special attention for chronic relapsers. Duration of treatment programs vary and is usually determined by the client. Abrams also encourages families to get involved with Alanon to develop a peer-support group. With more than a decade of expereince in the field of substance abuse and interventions, Lisa Abrams’ approach to treatment is diverse with a specialized focus on younger clientele. Combining evidence based methods and the 12-steps, Abrams services are collaborative and client-based.
