Mesa ArizonaThe Basics

Jerry Law bases his practice in Mesa, Arizona. He holds a Doctorate of Ministry and is a Board Registered Interventionist (BRI) and Master’s-level CDAC. Law is a member of the Association of Interventionist Specialists, NAADAC, the American Association of Christian Counselors and board-certified by the international board of Christian counselors. He works in family, adolescent and executive interventions which he conducts for alcoholics, those dependent on other substances, gambling and those with eating disorders. He is a staff member at ISA, Intervention Services of Arizona as well as the director of family education and leadership training at The Meadows.

The Background

Law spent 25 years in the corporate world, during which time he returned to school to study counseling. In his private practice Jerry works as a Pastoral Counselor and in addition to his Master’s and Doctorate Degree in Biblical Counseling, he has an undergraduate degree in Theology. Jerry is a member of The American Association of Christian Counselors, and is Board Certified by the International Board of Christian Counselors. In recovery himself, Jerry brings compassion and a first-hand understanding about how critical it is to break the cycle of addiction in the professional world as well as within the family.

The Approach

Law is the creator of the Transtheoretical Intervention Protocol (TIP), an intervention style that is based on the Johnson Model however incorporates a broad based Family Systems approach.  According to Law, recovery must include the entire family for the individual to be successful in the long run.

As part of ISA, Law’s intervention approach follows approved standards of preparing and facilitating interventions. The primary consultation with concerned family members to discern if intervention is in fact what is needed for their loved one is completely free of charge. This consultation may take place in person at Law’s Mesa offices or be conducted over the phone. Family members, colleagues and friends that are to be involved with the possible intervention may take part in this meeting.

Law’s specialization in pastoral and Biblical counseling may be implemented in cases where the concerned love ones believe that the connection to spirituality would benefit the party for whom the intervention is conducted. Though not always the case, when clients do choose to proceed into treatment after intervention, Law works with them to figure out the appropriate treatment option and choose a fitting treatment facility to match the client’s needs, as well as the family’s financial capabilities.

In Summary

Law’s association with ISA and extended experience make for a compelling combination. Not only does Law prepare families for each part of an intervention, he is also there to conduct the intervention and may have ISA make any travel arrangements needed for the intervention to be able to take place. His work continues post-intervention into support during treatment and may also extend to preparing an alternative approach for those clients who relapse, to help them return to sobriety once more. While the pastoral aspect of his private practice is not mandatorily implemented in his intervention work it may be of service to the family members and the factor that makes some choose Law’s help.
