The Basics
Pajaro Valley Prevention and Student Assistance is a nonprofit agency with the mission to provide prevention, health and educational programs to area schools and the Watsonville community, a suburb of Santa Cruz, California. Clients have access to outpatient substance abuse treatment programs with a strong emphasis on prevention and education.
Treatment and Staff
The alcohol and drug prevention program for schools is the more comprehensive treatment program offered by PVPSA. Intended for high school students who are either currently experiencing substance abuse problems or who are at-risk of developing problems, this track consists of case management services and group therapy sessions.
Prevention education and basic addiction education seminars are also included in the program and are held at various schools in the community by PVPSA staff members. Through CBT-based approaches to treatment and referral services for those seeking further courses of action, clients access the support they need while still maintaining a regular schedule and life. The 12 steps are not incorporated into treatment, however referrals to local chapters are available by request.
The staff at PVPSA consists of an LCSW and Licensed MFTs.
Extras
In addition to their prevention/treatment program, PVPSA also offers a variety of community services. Additional programs include smoking cessation, restorative justice programs for troubled and at at-risk youth, parenting workshops, prevention curriculum courses, support groups, school-based counseling and community-based counseling.
In Summary
The substance abuse treatment program at PVPSA is intended for high school students who are at-risk and strongly integrates prevention education. Through case management services, group therapy and educational seminars, clients receive a solid foundation for recovery and sobriety using evidence-based methods.
