The Basics
Hope House Bette Center is one of the network of residential substance abuse treatment programs offered through Hope House, Inc. Founded in 1967 as a single residential facility, over the years the organization has expanded to include facilities and programs that treat adults, adolescents, mothers in recovery and children throughout the Capital District of New York state. The Bette Center provides treatment for both men and women using the Stages of Change Model throughout treatment.
Food and Accommodations
Located in Albany, the Bette Center is a two story brick building on a tree-lined residential street. Clients are accommodated in 35 beds, with two separate gender-specific living quarters for men and women. All bathrooms and living spaces are shared including one living room with a TV, a dining room, laundry facilities and a kitchen. Clients help to prepare meals which consist of healthy American-fare such as salads, vegetables, meats and fish.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at the Bette Center begins with an initial assessment and evaluation to determine which treatment methods will be most beneficial for the client. An initial individualized treatment plan is devised that evolves over time as clients progress in recovery.
Treatment services include daily group therapy and weekly individual therapy sessions, as well as daily educational lessons, life skills training, vocational training and occasional seminars. Clients are also administered a high school equivalence exam (GED) once they have completed the education courses.
Family therapy is also integrated into the program if desired. Additional specialized services available are trauma informed care, grief and loss counseling, criminal thinking workshops, Seeking Safety groups and Suboxone management.
Throughout the treatment process, staff members guide clients through the each phase of treatment: pre-contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action and maintenance. Each stage indicates how the client is facing their problems as an addict and the actions they are taking to change their behavior. The 12 steps are not integrated into this treatment program, but staff are qualified to treat clients requiring dual diagnosis support.
The staff at HHBC consists of a psychiatrist, LPCs, LSWs and LCDCs.
Extras
In addition to the Bette Center, Hope House also offers a variety of other programs and services. These include community programs such as intensive case management and shelter care, two adolescent residential programs—one gender-specific facility or boys and one for both boys and girls, an outpatient clinic, a program for women with children and a children’s program.
In Summary
The Bette Center at Hope House is an ideal program for those seeking residential treatment using the Stages of Change model of recovery. The credentialed staff guides clients as they progress through each phase, preparing them for sober, healthy and independent living upon completion of the program. As a part of the Hope House, Inc. network of care, clients have access to a range of treatment options including gender-specific and outpatient programs.
