Accommodations and Food

The Corazon facility is made up of two neighboring campuses, the first housing 41 clients and the second containing a kitchen, laundry and housing for 17 men in the transitional program. Amenities are basic, but comfortable, with all needs taken care of. Staff prepares home-style meals on-site, which are healthy and plentiful. Snacks are also available between meals.

Treatment and Staff

Clients undergo an initial assessment, after which treatment recommendations are made. Those needing medically supervised detox or intensive dual diagnosis support are referred to other programs. However, the short-term hospitalization program assists men transition from inpatient to residential or outpatient care. A staff of psychiatrist, doctor, case manager and CADCs work closely to move clients through this program within seven to 10 days.

The residential program requires a 30-day commitment and abstinence from mood-altering substances for 72 hours before admission. Drug tests and urinalysis is performed at random, or as dictated by legal requirements. Substance abuse education classes and CBT-based group therapy are the primary method of treatment, though individual counseling and on-site 12-step meetings can be integrated. Treatment aims to restore self-esteem and help establish healthy relationships, while also teaching skills that lead to a successful life. Relapse prevention, coping skills, emotional regulation and family unification help clients avoid dysfunctional behavior in the future.

Once completed, clients in residential treatment have the option to move into the transitional program for up to six months. Here, clients are offered support and guidance with more freedom in their schedules. They are able to seek and start work, leaving campus when needed. Case management and assistance with work and vocational goals is offered. Nine clinical staff, four house managers and support staff oversee clients, ensuring around the clock supervision.

The first phase of the IOP meets for four weeks, while the second phase lasts eight weeks. Treatment consists of both group and individual counseling, with the focus on personal development and relapse prevention. The outpatient program is 14 weeks long and includes two group and individual counseling sessions and an eight-week maintenance phase. All sessions are three hours long, not including individual and case management services.
