Community Health CenterThe Basics

Community Health Center is a private, not-for-profit organization located in Akron, Ohio. Since 1973, Community Health Center has been offering an array of treatments to adolescents and adults struggling with addiction and chemical dependencies. Believing the key to recovery is total well-being of the client, its Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) facilitates a treatment process that’s therapeutic, multi-disciplinary and geared toward helping clients fully integrate sobriety and recovery into their daily lives.

Treatment and Staff

Clients are assessed and evaluated by the medical director and staff psychologist before beginning treatment. Based on the evaluation, an individualized plan of treatment is created. Generally, IOP treatment consists of individual and group therapy, held Monday through Saturday. Therapy is CBT and 12-step based. Community Health Center conducts NA/AA meetings regularly and dual diagnosis clients are welcome.

The amount of hours and sessions a client attends varies on an individual basis, however Community Health Center is open Monday through Friday from 5 am to 2 pm, and Saturday from 6 am to 9:30 am. It is always closed on Sundays.

The program is approximately five months long. The IOP also includes vocational development, case management, community support groups and reintegration programming.

The IOP treatment staff consists of psychologists, LPCs, LCDCs, and LADCs.

Extras

Community Health Center also offers what it describes as “wrap around services” which enhance the client’s recovery, independence and success outside the traditional style of therapy. These supplemental services include Family Practice, which provides health care and child care, Housing Programs ranging from transitional to permanent, and Touchstone, which is a supportive housing program specifically for women.

In Summary

Community Health Center is committed to helping clients achieve sobriety, maintain sobriety and thrive. It accepts most insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid and all managed healthcare plans. Fees are applied on a sliding scale. Supporting the theory that there is no “one size fits all” approach to treatment,  it combines traditional counseling with educational seminars, community support and vocational training. With a variety of programs, funding and sliding scale fees, CHC is vast resource for those in northern Ohio seeking help overcoming addiction and hopefully establishing long-term recovery.
