Located in Casper, Wyoming, Central Wyoming Counseling Center is a CARF-accredited facility that has offered comprehensive services for substance abuse and mental health issues since 1959. Services include Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and general outpatient for adults and adolescents dealing with substance abuse and mental health issues. Treatment includes an emphasis on relapse prevention and evidence-based therapies.

Treatment and Staff

Generally, both the adult and adolescent programs are identical in structure, though some group topics may vary depending on their relevant to each set of clients. Before beginning the program, each participant receives an individualized treatment plan. While all programs follow a specific structure, clients are able to receive one-on-one attention and care that fits their needs. Co-occurring disorders are addressed through talk therapy and psychiatry.

IOP meets three times a week for three-hour sessions which includes individual and group therapy. Individual sessions are an hour long each and occur once a week. Topics covered during group sessions include relapse prevention, life skills, coping mechanisms, relationships and emotional processing. Therapy also includes the use of CBT and DBT. Groups sizes range from eight to 12 clients at a time.

Once IOP has been completed, clients typically step down into general outpatient. This program offers the lowest level of care, allowing clients to have weekly check-ins to maintain their progress. All those in general outpatient meet for one individual session a week as well as one two-hour group session. Group topics covered are similar to those in IOP. The length of time spent in treatment varies depending on the individual.

The facility has separate staff, since it offers separate programs for mental health and substance abuse issues. The mental health outpatient staff consists of two psychologists, five LPCs and a case manager, while the substance abuse staff consists of five Master’s-level therapists, a peer specialist and a case manager.

Extras

As mentioned above, those in need of treatment exclusively for mental health issues can attend a separate outpatient program for counseling related to their needs. Other special services include a women’s only group and jail-based treatment.

For those in need of more intensive care, residential treatment is also available. Residential care includes assessments, individual and group therapy, didactic groups, individualized treatment plans and discharge preparation and planning.

In Summary

In all, Central Wyoming Counseling Center provides a solid outpatient program available in two intensity levels for both adults and adolescents. Treatment is founded in evidence-based therapy, with separate staff available to help clients with mental and substance abuse issues. Central Wyoming Counseling Center is a strong resource for those in the area.
