The Basics
Since 1987, Social Model Recovery Systems has provided chemical dependency treatment and mental health services for adults and adolescents throughout Southern California. With a network of 12 treatment facilities throughout Los Angeles and the Orange County area, the Pasadena Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Program is one of the affiliated outpatient facilities, located in Pasadena, California. Adults and adolescents receive recovery assistance from a knowledgeable staff and a community-minded program with a peer-supportive environment that focuses on personal responsibility and accountability.
Treatment and Staff
Prior to enrollment, potential clients must be seen for a bio-psych-social assessment with the intake staff. The assessment dictates the level of care and the frequency of treatment in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). All clients must actively agree to an individualized treatment plan that is revisited every 90 days to ensure progress and effectiveness. Program length is typically six months, but some clients may stay longer with additional care options. Clients must remain abstinent during treatment and random drug testing is performed to ensure sobriety.
The adolescent IOP track is tailored for clients between the ages of 12 and 17 who must attend therapy sessions twice a week. IOP for adults requires attendance of a minimum of three sessions per week. All clients attend group and individual therapy with their primary counselor and may attend treatment either morning or evening sessions to accommodate work or school schedules. A parenting program is available for the parents of adolescent clients as well as the adults enrolled in the program. Counselors work with the clients to develop parenting and communication skills.
In addition to group and individual therapy, clients are required to attend 12-step meetings and seek sponsorship. All clients—adolescent and adult—must attend a minimum of three meetings per week with a signed attendance card. Pasadena Council endorses the philosophy that 12-step support ensures clients have external sources to rely on when they are not attending treatment activities at the facility.
The staff utilizes evidence-based practices that include CBT and DBT techniques. If clients have additional mental health concerns, they may seek dual diagnosis support through specialized groups and individual sessions with qualified staff. The program activities are facilitated by a diverse staff of CASACs and LCSWs.
Extras
An aftercare program is available for clients who have completed the IOP and wish to continue their recovery. For up to a year after discharge, clients may attend groups and individual therapy sessions as well as family therapy.
On the third Saturday of each month, an Alumni meeting is held in El Monte for graduates from one of the 12 Social Model Recovery Systems facilities.
In Summary
The Pasadena Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence provides outpatient treatment for adults and adolescents with chemical dependency and addiction issues. The program is flexible and was developed around the belief that all clients have unique needs and health requirements and will benefit most from their relationships with one another. Clients attend group, individual and family therapy and have access to parenting classes and dual diagnosis support groups. Aftercare and alumni programs are also available, allowing clients to feel connected to the recovery fellowship following completion of treatment.
