The Basics

As a result of a partnership between national non-profits Goodwill and Easter Seals, Easter Seals-Goodwill Northern Rocky Mountain is a regional arm of the organization offering a wide variety of services for children and adults with autism and other behavioral health issues in Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming. Though its services are largely oriented towards individuals with developmental disabilities, the facility does have outpatient substance abuse services at its Boise and Caldwell, Idaho facilities.

Treatment and Staff

The substance abuse program at ESGNRM begins with an initial evaluation to determine the proper level of care. Clients are typically both court-appointed and self-referred. On-site detox services are not available.

Participants begin either an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or standard outpatient track. The former consists of three group therapy sessions a week and individual therapy usually every two weeks. When necessary, individual therapy can be as frequent as once a week. These sessions are led by LADCs and emphasize DBT and CBT, with special sessions devoted to early recovery, mindfulness, relapse prevention and trauma-informed care. There are also groups available for women only. Twelve-step recovery is not a part of treatment at ESGNRM, though clients can receive information about local meetings. The facility also offers a family program where clients can attend therapy sessions with members of their immediate family.

ESGNRM’s treatment includes a dual diagnosis component, with special groups set aside to address co-occurring disorders. Clients in need can also receive medication management overseen by an on-staff nurse practitioner. Still, there is no psychiatrist on staff nor is there a medical doctor.

The facility also offers a fairly long-term aftercare program which typically lasts 90 days and consists of a stepped down care, with group sessions once a week and individual sessions as needed.

Extras

One of the chief benefits of participating in ESGNRM’s program is the range of additional offerings from such a large-scale organization. Among these are medical services, children’s services and support services for education and housing. There’s also a comprehensive job training and employment program which can often lead to placement in one of Goodwill’s local retail stores. These programs also apply to those with disabilities, low-income seniors and those currently receiving public assistance.

In Summary

Given the long history of both Easter Seals and Goodwill, Easter Seals-Goodwill Northern Rocky Mountain is a facility which can be counted on for a range of issues. While its substance abuse services are limited to its Idaho locations for now, those participating can expect an IOP with a dual diagnosis help, a family program and sessions dedicated to specialty topics as well. Combined with aftercare, Easter Seals-Goodwill Northern Rocky Mountain is a strong resource for those in the state.
