Pawtucket Rhode IslandThe Basics

Founded in 2012, by Oleg Kishkovich, who is in recovery, Sanctuary Recovery Residences provides gender-specific sober living homes for men and women all over the small state of Rhode Island. With locations in Central Falls, Pawtucket and West Warwick. The Sanctuary philosophy is that by providing a family-style recovery home with strong peer support, the journey to independent living becomes a smoother transition.

Accommodations and Amenities

Sanctuary Recovery Residences accommodates about 100 clients between all eight houses. Each house has between ten and 12 clients. The original male-only house in Central Falls is a quaint cornflower blue bungalow with white trim and bay windows and the other homes are similarly tidy and situated in safe, quiet neighborhoods. The furnished bedrooms are double or single occupancy, but newcomers are placed in a double, with the belief that sharing a room in early recovery is healthier than being alone. The rooms are furnished with twin beds, dressers, a nightstand and lamps. Amenities include Wi-Fi, cable TV and laundry facilities. Clients are allowed to bring a laundry basket, toiletries, clothing, a cell phone, lockbox for medications, books, a computer and car. They must also bring their own bedding, pillow and towels.

Residents are responsible for purchasing their own groceries, and a fully equipped kitchen is available for meal preparation. Each residence has a live-in house manager.

Rules and Regulations

At Sanctuary Recovery Residences, one house in Pawtucket is specifically designated to accommodate clients on medication-assisted treatment, including methadone and Suboxone. The other homes require that clients have completed detox. Newly arrived residents are encouraged to attend 90 12-step meetings in 90 days. After that time, they must go to three AA/NA/CA weekly meetings.

Other requirements include obtaining a sponsor, getting a home group, performing household chores, and working the steps. During the first 30 days, the curfew is 10 pm seven days a week. After that initial period, curfew is 11 pm Mondays through Thursdays, and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

At Sanctuary Recovery Residences, random drug and alcohol screening is conducted. Staff recommends a drug rehab or detox facility for residents who relapse. They must leave the house, to ensure the safety of other residents, but they are given a chance to find a place to go.

Extras

Clients are close to a plethora of 12-step meetings. Pawtucket alone has 28 weekly meetings.

Sanctuary Recovery Residences encourages clients to participate in resources and classes provided by the Anchor Recovery Coaching Academy in Pawtucket and Warwick. Starting on April 1, 2016, the Academy will offer a five-day recovery coaching class. There are 30 slots available, and successful graduates receive Continuing Education Unit (CEU) certificates from the Rhode Island College for Chemical Dependency.

In Summary

Kishkovich is passionate about the 12 steps, and recovery. He seems to have a good intuitive sense regarding newcomers and their needs. For clients seeking affordable, and safe sober living in picturesque East Coast homes, Sanctuary Recovery Residences are the perfect alcohol and drug-free dwellings.
