Glendale ArizonaThe Basics

Located in Glendale, Arizona, Maverick House Sober Living provides sober living for men. Potential clients must already be committed to a 12-step protocol in order to be accepted. Maverick House’s mission is to provide a safe and structured environment, where men can continue to work on their spiritual approach to recovery, while learning responsibility.

Accommodations and Amenities

Maverick House is a two-story desert sand colored, gated apartment complex, with outdoor staircases, covered balconies and a courtyard. This little sober living community accommodates 28 men, who are housed in groups of four in fully furnished two bedroom apartments. The apartments also include a spacious living room and fully equipped kitchen and two bathrooms. Each apartment has its own washer and dryer.

Clients are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation. Residents have the option of purchasing Cable or Wi-Fi, which is not included in the cost. A house manager lives on the premises.

Rules and Regulations

Prior to admission, potential clients must have successfully graduated from a residential treatment program or have been involved in a 12-step program, and have a minimum of 30 days clean and sober. Clients undergo a comprehensive interview to ensure that Maverick House is a proper fit. During the interview process, the men are screened and placed in an appropriate phase. The maximum length of stay is between 15 and 18 months.

During the first 30-day phase, clients work on goals, which include obtaining full time work, getting a sponsor, working the steps and attending five weekly 12-step meetings. Residents involved in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or aftercare program are allowed to count their group sessions toward the weekly meeting quota. The curfew is 5 pm seven days a week. Additionally, clients must perform household chores and attend house meetings.

During phase two, which lasts two months, clients must have obtained full-time work and continue to attend regular 12-step meetings. The curfew is 10 pm seven days a week. Phase three lasts between a year and 18 months. During this time, residents practice independent living skills, and no longer adhere to a strict curfew. As long as they abide by house rules, they are considered to be residents in good standing.

At Maverick House, there is a zero tolerance policy regarding drug and alcohol use. Random screenings are conducted. Those who relapse are immediately terminated from the premises to ensure the safety of the household. The 30-day cost is $500, not including a $250 deposit. Clients enrolled in an IOP pay a discounted 30-day cost of $300.

Extras

Other services besides housing include peer support, goal planning and vocational assistance.

Maverick House Sober Living hosts several weekly AA meetings including a Sunday night open discussion/speaker meeting at 8 pm, and a Big Book study on Monday nights at 7 pm.

In Summary

Maverick House Sober Living is a great place for clients eager to work the steps, while living in an environment that promotes peer support and accountability. Clients who require transitional care are encouraged to attend outpatient treatment. That being said, Maverick House is perfect fit for AA enthusiasts.
