The Basics
Located about 40 miles north of Portland in Lewiston, Maine, Blue Willow Counseling provides a variety of outpatient behavioral health services. For treatment of substance abuse, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) with optional step-down phase and Drivers Education and Evaluation Program (DEEP) are available for men and women over 18.
Treatment and Staff
All evaluations and assessments are performed by appointment only, and must take place between 9 am and 4 pm Mondays through Fridays. If the services at Blue Willow are deemed appropriate for the client, they will receive an individualized treatment plan detailing the length of treatment. Though medications cannot be prescribed, referrals are made to local providers and clients are supervised through the process.
IOP typically runs for five weeks, with clients attending sessions from 9 am to noon, Mondays through Fridays. Clients have the option to continue weekly groups after completing the IOP, to further ease the transition out of treatment. Sessions consist of group therapy, which takes place in an atmosphere that encourages clients to achieve sobriety, develop new coping skills, become accountable and learn relapse prevention techniques. These evidence-based practices assist clients with a smooth transition to independent living. This program is suitable for clients who have already completed detox or a residential program, or who would like to address their substance abuse before more intensive treatment is required. Individual counseling is offered to IOP clients weekly, and to all others as needed.
A variety of licensed counselors, including LADCs, LCSWs and CSACs, provide treatment. Each of them is trained in a range of therapeutic modalities that include EMDR, CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and hypnotherapy. Whether treating substance abuse or co-occurring disorders, counselors are able to employ solution-focused therapy. Certified Seeking Safety providers, many staff are especially well equipped to address trauma, family dynamics, eating disorders and serious mental health disorders.
Extras
Couples and family counseling sessions employ the same techniques and also facilitate the development of family goals and healthy communication.
The DEEP program provides outpatient education and counseling services for clients that have had their driver’s license suspended or withdrawn after an OUI. This program meets the requirements set forth by the State and meets weekly. These sessions are offered on Saturday.
In Summary
Blue Willow Counseling offers treatment services that are excellent for clients with substance abuse and mental health concerns. Staff trained in such a variety of modalities ensures clients receive personalized care, not formulaic treatment plans. Most insurance—including MaineCare—are accepted, with a sliding scale option available for those without coverage.
