The Basics
Share House is a coed transitional living home for adults diagnosed with substance abuse and a co-occurring disorder. Situated next door to Turning Point Addiction Services, residents of Share House receive the added benefit of outpatient counseling. For the past 25 years, Share House has been providing shelter and continued recovery to homeless addicts and alcoholics in Missoula County and surrounding areas.
Accommodations and Amenities
Located on the Western Montana Addiction Services campus, Share House is a charming single-story structure housing 17 clients in gender-specific rooms. The house has eight bedrooms, four bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and dining hall. The women’s section houses four females with two to a room, and the men’s accommodates 13 with two to a room. There is a TV in the living room with designated hours for viewing staff-approved shows. Cable and Wi-Fi access are not provided.
Amenities include linens and cleaning supplies but clients are responsible for all personal items. Furnishings include twin beds, night stands and shared dressers. While clients are responsible for purchasing food, most residents are on Medicaid or public assistance, which covers the cost. Share House also receives donations from local food banks. Each Friday, two residents are chosen to do the grocery shopping (accompanied by the house manager) and meal preparation for the week.
Rules and Regulations
Eligible clients must be homeless and diagnosed with co-occurring disorders. Smoking is permitted in designated areas outside during supervised breaks. Cell phones, laptops and electronic devices are not permitted. Substance abuse and violence are grounds for immediate eviction. Clients are assigned house chores, which rotate weekly, and are responsible for daily cleaning of their room and bathroom.
Residents must remain on the property for the first 30 days. Once this orientation period is complete, clients are permitted to attend outside 12-step meetings on the buddy system, with a 10 pm curfew Sunday through Thursday and 11 pm Friday and Saturday. Urine tests and Breathalyzers are facilitated by staff on a random basis.
All residents attend either IOP or outpatient services next door at Turning Point. Medication management is facilitated by psychiatrists and all medications are dispersed by the house manager. Case managers assist with job search and training programs. The typical length of stay is six months to one year, depending on individual progress and employment status.
Extras
Case management facilitates a comprehensive treatment plan upon discharge, which includes housing, educational and employment resources along with continued outside therapy.
In Summary
Share House offers safe and comfortable housing for homeless individuals suffering with substance abuse and mental health issues. In addition to offering housing, Share House ensures clients have a pathway back to society upon discharge.
