The Rehab Center at Catalyst Life Services- New BeginningsThe Basics

New Beginnings is the residential rehab facility within The Rehab Center at Catalyst Life Services in Mansfield, Ohio, a suburban town about an hour and a half south of Cleveland. It provides substance abuse and/or co-occurring disorders treatment to men and women over 18.

Accommodations and Food

New Beginnings is a home-like environment with separate wings for males and females with about 13 beds total in shared rooms. Individual rooms are also available at no additional cost and each wing has two full bathrooms. Female residents with babies are allowed to have a crib in the room with them.

Meals and chores are co-ed. Residents are assigned chores each week that rotate. Duties include, cleaning, trash disposal and cooking. Weekly scheduled outings to AA and NA meetings plus trips to the YMCA to exercise keep the residents busy. Residents are also allowed to leave the premises with approval to meet with sponsors.  For residents with older children, there are supervised visiting rooms with toys and a Nintendo Wii.

Meals are served three times a day and are cooked entirely by the residents themselves. It is the residents’ responsibility to figure out recipes, prepare and cook each meal and everyone eats together. Coffee is sometimes allowed with breakfast and sugary snacks as well, depending on the clients’ privileges.

Treatment and Staff

New Beginnings is located on the same property as The Rehab Center. Residents undergo treatment for a minimum of 120 days. After a client’s initial assessment, he or she is assigned to an LADC who creates an individualized treatment plan.

Residents wake up at 7am for breakfast then immediately go into group therapy. Residents typically meet with their counselors for individual therapy once a week or more ,depending on their treatment plan. New Beginnings is a 12-step oriented program and all group meetings are co-ed. Psychiatrists are available to residents with co-occurring disorders in the main rehab center building. If meds are required for treatment, medication management is available.

In addition to the designated LADC, additional staff members keep their office doors open all day to residents. There are residential field specialists on-site at all times.

There is also an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that provides treatment and therapy for people 18 and over that are abusing drugs or alcohol and suffering from or dual diagnosis issues but wish to live at home during treatment. Like New Beginnings, treatment utilizes evidence-based and 12-step principals providing a structured group therapy environment for clients. They develop stress management strategies, learn drug/alcohol refusal skills and practice relapse prevention techniques, all while living at home. Medication-assisted treatment is available but supplemented by counseling to people with opiate addiction. Detox referrals and financial assistance are also available. After their IOP is completed, clients are encouraged to attend aftercare programs through The Center Adult Mental Health and Crisis Services of Catalyst Life Services.

Extras

Aside from just New Beginnings, Catalyst Life Services provides various community-oriented, mental health services for men, women, children, families and the hearing impaired. As such, after completing the program at New Beginnings there are a multitude of other resources available including mental health counseling and vocational training.
