The Basics
Located in Santa Clarita, California, Valley Recovery Center provides substance abuse and gambling addiction treatment for men in Los Angeles County. Clients seeking all levels of care can be accommodated, with several residential, outpatient and extended care programs available. As a family-owned and operated facility, Valley Recovery provides a personalized approach, incorporating evidence-based practices into its holistic treatment methods.
Accommodations and Food
Up to six men reside in the expansive, newly renovated home, containing beautifully appointed communal areas and large kitchen. Sofas and a fireplace create an inviting atmosphere in the living spaces. Private bedrooms are furnished with twin beds, closets, bedding and all linens. Updated adjoining bathrooms contain deep-soak tubs and separate showers.
Clients can take in the California sunshine by the outdoor pool, patio or meditation corner. A Chef prepares all meals, which are served at set times throughout the day. Dietary restrictions—and some requests—can be accommodated, with most meals focusing on nutrition and taste.
Treatment and Staff
Residential programs range from 30 to 90 days, with a minimum stay of 30 days required. To take full advantage of everything Valley Recovery has to offer, the full 90 days is recommended. Treatment is highly personalized, with a range of optional modalities that complement the core program. Those requiring medically monitored detox complete this process under medical supervision. Staff includes nurses, doctors and a psychiatrist who are able to treat ongoing medical needs. Though clients with co-occurring disorders can find support at Valley Recovery, medication is only prescribed if there is an urgent need.
Group therapy occurs three or four times a day, with men discussing challenges and addressing concerns utilizing behavioral therapy. They also learn about the causes and consequences of substance abuse, coping skills and healthy communication techniques. Relapse prevention and life skills training are incorporated to prepare clients for independent, substance-free living. Individual counseling occurs four times a week, and includes targeted focus for those needing dual diagnosis support for eating disorders, PTSD, trauma and mood disorders.
In addition to counseling sessions, clients may partake in hypnotherapy, equine therapy and recreational activities like group sports, games and outings. Clients are transported to regular 12-step meetings off-site, as well as all medical and legal appointments. Family visits occur on Saturday, with family counseling offered at this time.
The focus of the first 30 days is on detox and stabilization, while the following 30 or 60 continue intensive psychological recovery. Many go on to affiliated sober living facilities after leaving Valley Recovery and are able to keep receiving care through day or evening outpatient programs. These programs continue counseling sessions and 12-step attendance, building on the techniques learned as residents. Referrals are made to sober living and outpatient services if the client does not live in the area.
The staff includes psychiatrists, psychologists, CADCs and many other professionals, including hypnotherapists, art therapists, music therapists, and pet therapists, who work to guide patients through their entire recovery process.
Extras
Aftercare services extend for up to a year after completing treatment and include regular phone calls with staff. These are to monitor progress, address concerns and offer referrals if additional services are needed.
In Summary
Valley Recovery Center provides men a structured and homelike environment in which to begin their recovery. With extended care options available, clients can benefit from long-term treatment. As a family-operated center, Valley Recovery can ensure personalized care for their clients. The intimate setting and range of supportive services makes it a good choice in southern California. The cost includes detox but not additional prescribed medications.
