Franklin New HampshireThe Basics

Located in Franklin, New Hampshire, Webster Place is a non-profit treatment center for adults struggling with substance abuse and addiction. A peer-based recovery center, Webster Place exclusively utilizes a 12-step approach to recovery. Located in an historic, restored building about 80 miles north of Boston, Webster Place is in a picturesque, rural community.

Accommodations and Food

A two million dollar makeover in 2008 left Webster Place a quaint and comfortable residence accommodating 40 clients. Double-occupancy rooms are furnished with twin beds and each room has its own full private bath. The meeting rooms and living areas are large and spacious, with an outdoor deck and garden to enjoy.

Mealtime is an important communal experience at Webster, so food is served family-style. Staff prepares healthy, bountiful meals, with dietary accommodations made for those with particular needs. The atmosphere is intended to be relaxing and comfortable. Clients assist with simple housekeeping chores, helping keep the home inviting together.

Treatment and Staff

As there is no medication management or medical supervision, clients requiring detox or dual diagnosis support are referred to the affiliated Farnum Center for treatment. Clients are allowed only prescribed medicines and must supply a physician’s waiver before admission. If a client must see a doctor or LADC during their stay, they will visit one at the Farnum Center, for additional cost.

Treatment length varies from 30 to 90 days. Clients are encouraged to stay as long as possible, as Webster believes this offers the best chance for long-term recovery. The program is run by counselors and mentors also in recovery from substance abuse. With treatment consisting of evidence-based and 12-step practices, daily activities include AA/NA meetings, community meetings, literature study, homework, group discussions and private reflection. Mentors work as sponsors, guiding clients through the 12 steps. The group discussions are an opportunity for clients to talk about progress, emotional developments and concerns they may have. Random drug testing is performed, as drug or alcohol use is strictly prohibited.

Extras

Additionally, workshops are held on stress relief and mindfulness techniques. Exercise equipment is available for use and time is allocated for working out, journaling and meditation. Clients can also play music, pool, write, knit and make arts and crafts with provided equipment. Group activities include yoga and karate. Outings are chaperoned and arranged weekly to museums, lake, baseball games, recovery events and other AA functions.

Follow-up visits with a physician occur every six months for two years to check on the client’s progress in maintaining a sober lifestyle. Mentors suggest 12-step meetings local to the client, as well as transitional living options and additional recovery resources as needed.

In Summary

Webster Place offers a warm, home-like environment in which men and women can recover. Utilizing 12-step programs as the foundation for recovery, peer-support and community are crucial components. Therefore, clients willing to participate in this kind of treatment are likely to see improvement. To encourage clients to stay longer, fees are reduced with each additional 30-day increment. For a low-cost center, Webster offers a valuable program.
