The Basics

Frederick County Health Department offers numerous public health services and programs including behavioral health services and a substance abuse treatment program. Located in Frederick, Maryland, treatment is exclusively outpatient and highly individualized, using evidence based treatment methods.

Treatment and Staff

The FCHD prides itself on offering substance abuse treatment tailored to the needs of each individual and also offers an environment of education and healing. There is no preset duration for treatment—length of enrollment is entirely dependent on the personal needs and progress of each client.

After an initial evaluation and assessment, a counselor determines a unique treatment plan tailored for each client which includes a combination of individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy sessions, educational lectures and prevention programs. All therapies are based in CBT methodology. The 12 steps are not integrated into the program, however clients are strongly encouraged to attend meetings and are provided with referrals for detox and residential treatment programs if desired.

The staff at FCHD consists of CADCs, LADCs, LSWs and LPCs.

Extras

The behavioral service program is just one department of the FCHD; numerous other health services are offered to the community including cancer prevention programs, clinical services, developmental disabilities services, a dental clinic, environmental health, maternal care, family planning, school health and immunizations.

In Summary

The FCHD’s loosely structured and individualized treatment program may be ideal for individuals with strong recovery who want general services to support their journey. This basic outpatient program is entirely dependent on the client’s commitment to treatment and desire to recover.
