The Basics
With the first office opened over 20 years ago in Thurmont, the Catoctin Counseling Centers offer outpatient counseling services throughout central Maryland. Over the years, Catoctin has expanded to include four offices in Hagerstown, Westminster, Thurmont and Frederick. Catoctin provides a practical and flexible therapeutic resource for individuals who have behavioral health issues and who may also require substance abuse treatment and education services. Depending on the needs of each client, treatment is focused on providing comfort during the recovery process and insight into creating a new life with lasting sobriety.
Treatment and Staff
Before treatment begins, potential clients must schedule an appointment for an evaluation intake session which determines the level of treatment that is appropriate for their course of recovery. There is no detox or medication management, but if a client requires additional services they may be referred to another facility.
Clients requiring basic treatment are enrolled in the six-week drug and alcohol psycho-education course. This course is also ideal for individuals who are in employee assistance programs or with court-mandated obligations. Once per week for two hours each session, clients learn the effects of prolonged substance abuse and the dangers of driving while intoxicated.
If the client requires a more intensive treatment track, they are enrolled in the basic outpatient program. For 26 weeks total, clients attend therapeutic activities once per week for one hour sessions. Group therapy is the main mode of treatment, with counselors utilizing evidence-based practices and CBT/DBT techniques. While the program is not 12-step based, clients are encouraged to attend meetings to build a stronger support network outside of the treatment facility. Individual therapy is available as needed with counselors and their clients developing recovery goals and relapse prevention skills to maintain sobriety after discharge.
The staff at CCC include LCPCs, LCSWs and other credentialed licensed professionals. Dual diagnosis support is available and all therapists are trained to work with co-occurring disorders. Any other concerns that fall outside of the CCC scope of practice are referred out to trusted resources for mental and physical health.
Extras
While there is no formal family program available, clients may seek counseling for couples and family while in treatment. The clinical staff may also assist with weight issues, depression, process addictions and domestic violence.
In Summary
The Catoctin Counseling Centers offer treatment from four locations across Maryland with counseling services for substance abuse and other general mental health concerns. Clients may enroll in either an education program or general outpatient program depending on their needs and acuity of dependency. While CCC does not offer detox or medication services, their programs are designed to give each client an individualized experience in recovery with minimal time spent at the facility allowing clients to work and tend to their life and family responsibilities.
