The Basics
Since 2007, Transformations Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center has provided both outpatient and inpatient substance abuse treatment services as well as an on-site detox facility in Delray Beach, Florida. Clients can choose between basic outpatient treatment or an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)both incorporating evidence-based therapies, the 12 steps and psycho-education classes. Clients participate in a holistic treatment experience that addresses psychological, physical and spiritual needs. Transformations also offers optional specialized therapy for those seeking a Christian faith-based approach to recovery.
Transformations Executive Vice President of Clinic Services, Dr. Maureen Espisito, holds a PhD in Marriage and Family Counseling and trained at the Hanley Hazelden Center, a reputable not-for-profit organization with a long history of proven treatment success.
Treatment and Staff
Outpatient services are divided into three levels of care: Phase one is the IOP, comprised of a total of 24 hours of treatment each week in the form of three-hour group therapy sessions and one individual therapy session. Most clients complete the IOP in eight weeks. Clients entering outpatient treatment after completing a 30-day residential program have the option of completing the IOP in half the time. During this phase, clients are expected to obtain a 12-step sponsor and attend several outside peer-support meetings each week, such as AA/NA, SMART Recovery or Celebrate Recovery.
Phase two—or standard outpatient—requires clients to participate in a total of 16 group therapy sessions lasting 90-minutes each, meeting twice a week for eight weeks. In this phase, clients can pick a third treatment option each week, which may include individual therapy or an additional process group or education class.
In Phase three, clients choose one to three weekly sessions which may include individual therapy, group therapy or a special topics class. During this phase, clients work closely with their primary counselor to create an aftercare program that ideally includes service work in their community and preparing to sponsor others in a peer-support program.
Therapy process groups at Transformations have a maximum of 15 participants and use evidence-based techniques such as CBT. Clients can also receive EMDR for trauma-treatment during individual sessions.
Each client is assigned a primary counselor at the beginning of treatment who closely monitors progress and adjusts the treatment plan as-needed. Transformations employs a credentialed clinical team that includes Master’s-level therapists, LCSWs and Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs), psychologists and a holistic medicine specialist. Clinicians are trained to treat clients with dual diagnosis and process groups explore living with co-occurring disorders.
A unique aspect of outpatient treatment at Transformations are the specialized classes and process groups that further customize treatment based on the individual’s needs and background. These include gender-specific groups and classes for survivors of sexual assault, a first responders program for those who might be suffering from PTSD from their work in the line of duty and Christian faith-based therapy that explores the relationship between recovery and Christian religious beliefs.
Extras
Transformations employs a chiropractor/holistic medicine specialist who helps clients determine the best natural supplements to aid their recovery. It also hosts a weekly alumni group to support clients with aftercare following treatment. Transformations offers job placement assistance and a weekly free class to support the families of those battling addiction.
In Summary
Transformations is a comprehensive recovery facility in south Florida offering detox, inpatient, outpatient and aftercare services. Its large staff provides clients individualized attention as they progress through treatment, supporting a step down process from one intensity level to the next as necessary. Transformations knows that the causes of addiction and the recovery process are not one-size-fits-all and so it has developed several specialized treatment tracks for first-responders, survivors of sexual abuse and those wishing to take a religious faith-based approach to their recovery.
