The Basics

Since 1989, Cascade Recovery Center has provided education, intervention and treatment for chemical dependency. Located in Silverdale, Washington, Cascade is about an hour west of Seattle. Providing treatment for adolescents and adults, programs are limited to outpatient, though referrals and additional resources are available.

Treatment and Staff

New clients are first evaluated to determine the level of treatment needed. Those requiring medically monitored detox, or closer supervision, are referred to inpatient treatment centers. The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) allows clients to maintain some autonomy in their lives while receiving treatment. The IOP is also often recommended for clients that have just completed a residential program, and are in need of additional support.

Cascade offers services Mondays to Thursdays, from 9 am to 5 pm, and on Fridays from 9 am to 1 pm. Group therapy occurs during these times, with the IOP clients attending up to five sessions a week. These groups focus on relapse prevention, anger management, learning about the effects of chemicals on the body, as well as provide opportunities for clients to discuss progress and concerns. Introduction to 12-step groups is also offered, but outside meetings are not required. For adolescent IOP clients, a counselor trained in issues common to young people runs the sessions. Topics include peer pressure, goal setting and communication with parents. The goal of treatment at this stage is to prevent substance abuse from escalating to higher levels.

At Cascade, CADCs facilitate all groups. A licensed practical nurse is available to prescribe medication if needed, and to provide medication management as part of dual diagnosis support. Random urinalysis testing is offered as a service for all.

Extras

The alcohol and drug information school is a program that aims to educate clients of all ages, regardless of history of substance abuse. It is offered once a month, and is a short, lecture-based session that provides vital information about the physical, emotional, psychological and practical consequences of substance abuse. The deferred prosecution program is available to those facing sentences for drug and alcohol-related charges. A legal specialist works closely with each client to negotiate treatment and sentencing options.

Additionally, Cascade offers intervention services for clients of all ages. These programs aim to educate the client in the risks and consequences of their behavior, with the assistance of friends, family and loved ones. Clients may enter a specific treatment program, or continue with education services. Individual and family counseling with one of the counselors is offered for all clients.
